I got lucky, never smashed my first car up. I did come darn close though. My first car was one of those 4x4 AMC Eagle wagons. First snow of the year I was amazed how well it went through it. I could mash the pedal and the car would take off like it was dry pavement. What I didn't realise is that while the car might take off like it is dry pavement it sure don't stop like it. I was going a little too fast down a hill in town and couldn't stop in time for a four way stop sign. It was rush hour and I slid sideways all the way through the intersection. Almost took out a couple of cars that were turning. I learned a lesson about stopping in snow that day.

Not my first car, but my first big accident. '57 Chev Bel Air 4-dr hardtop. Was driving a little bit too fast in the rain. Went off a highway sideways, flew through the air for a while, rolled 2 1/2 times, and landed upside-down on a railroad track. Unfastened the seat belt (which I had installed myself only a couple weeks earlier), and fell on my head. Crawled out through the windshield and encountered a farmer who lived nearby. He asked if I was OK and if anyone else was in the car, then he put flares up and down the railroad track. When the State trooper arrived, the first thing he did was give the farmer another case of flares. Then he gave me a cigar, as a reward for installing and using the seat belts. The amazing thing was, he didn't give me a ticket.

18 year old kid. 1969 GTO Judge. new 3.90 Posi. light mist rain. jumped on it next to a 69 Z/28 in second, speed shifted into 3rd. we were doing about 35, my speedo was doing about 60. totally lost it and broadsided the Z while sliding sideways down the street.

knocked him over an island, he took out a fire hydrant and slid across 3 lanes of oncoming traffic and ended up on the patio of an apartment across the street.

nobody got hurt. Z was totalled and the GTO needed a new fender and front bumper.

EDIT: wasn't my first car.... just my first wreck

Mine was a 1970 Impala with a 400. I was doing burnouts around the highschool during the prom or something and managed to sideswipe another car. The driver got out in her prom dress screaming at me. No more burnouts after that!

Mine was a '68 Hurst Olds. I was at the local cruise area & not paying attention I slipped my foot off of the clutch & whipped her right into the rear quarter panel of a '68 Corvete. The 'Vette guy was cool about it & let me pay out of my pocket instead of letting the insurance company up my rates. It ended up costing me $383 in 1976

1968,16 years and one week old, driving my POS 55 Chevy towards my g/f house on a Saturday morning ( my parents thought I was at work at Dairy Queen)...Busy intersection with a stop sign on my side..Coast was clear,I started out,my 3 on the tree hung up going into 2nd,as usual, and I stopped to try to get it back into 1st.....in the intersection..great visibility,so the 57 bel Air that slammed into the right side had lots of time to see what he was about to hit..I'm sure he was thinking "WTF is that POS doing there?" Problem was I couldn't get it to move, shifter completely stuck now,and he knocked me out of the intersection, spun me around, and I ended up in front of a gas station waaay down from the intersection..Right side crushed, imprints of 57 headlights in the bondo remaining all over the side of my car..Shoulda died that day, luck of the stupid...pushed the side in so far that the back seat base looked like a tent sticking up,pretty sure it hit my head as it was popping up..ruined both cars, damn good thing the other guy had seatbelts,or he would have been sitting next to me after the crash...Cops came,I was sitting on the curb, not sure why I was alive,my car looked like somebody had to have died in it..Handed the cop the Tennesse temporary paper they give you when you first get your license....'I'll never forget..."Boy,you didn't waste much time, didya?"
That intersection got a traffic light THE NEXT WEEK.
We had my car towed home, there wasn't a damn thing that could be done for it,so my dad had it towed to the neighborhood gas station.Weeks later I watched them load it onto a flatbed after they torched off the roof.
The dirt guys couldn't have used anything off of that car,it was a wadded up lump of shit that from the left looked kinda like a 55 Chevy...
I'll bet the guy with the 57 is still pissed at me..IT was a good car...We were both damn lucky..

Mine was a '69 Cutlass, nothing special just stock beater I had as a teenager. I was taking my lazy ass older brother (that's another issue) to work. As we were going down the main drag pass the new car dealers I passed a cop car, made sure I was doing the speed limit as I passed so I wouldn't get a ticket. About five seconds later a lady in a brand new Nissan pulled out of the parking lot of the Nissan dealer, crossed the right lane and froze in the left lane, the lane I was in. 30 years later I can still remember the look on her face. All I could do was slam on the brakes and steer to the left. I just missed her front door but totaled her front clip. I braced myself against the steering wheel. Everything went into slow motion. The next thing I hear is a siren from the cop car I just passed. I had the best witnesses in the world. They gave her the ticket. After everything was taken care of I had to pull my steering wheel back into shape, it had completely bend with both sides almost touching the steering column, so I could drive the car home. Also, unknown to me at the time, the transmission cooling lines were kinked and were spraying fluid on my right side manifold. By the time I got home I had a thick cloud of smoke coming through the opening between the right fender and kinked up hood. The car was a mess but the lady's insurance paid me enough for a new front clip and a few other do dads for my old beater.

85 caprice 2 door. all black and really low... driving on hwy 14 headed toward i-5. going about 50-55mph crossed over an overpass to find traffic stopped on the other side( i-5 bridge was up) slammed on the breaks, slid right into them. 5 cars totalled 2 days before christmas. still have a nice scar through my eyebrow. my friend who was in the car with me had a broken wrist( her wrist stopped my face from hitting the steering wheel) and a hairline crack on her spine. it was brutal, and i will never forget about it...

when i hit, the motor mounts broke and pushed the motor back into the firewall. basically the whole front of the car was oblitterated. and i hit with so much force that above the rear window on the roof there was a crease

  10. Never bent the first or second car.

The 3rd a '55 Ranchwagon I got sideswiped and shoved over a cliff into an onion patch. Pretty stinky deal if you ask me.

My first car was and still is my'34 Chev standard 2door. I bopught it in '69 and built it over the next two years, with my dad. Eventually it turned into a car I didn't drive much- too nice for country roads with lots of logging trucks and rocks. But, on my birthday, Feb. 1, 1983, I was on my way to pick up a girl for a first date. Impress her with the ride, eh!! On the way to her house- 25 miles of twisty roads, I came over a hill at 50 MPH- at night- and there were two kids on bikes, right smack in front of me. To avoid them I turned left into a sloped 4 ft. tall bank. Pushed the frame all the way into the engine, tore off the front suspension, ripped up everything on the left side of the car. The sheriff, one of my buddys, told me not to even bother asking for money because even though there were tracks all over the road from the dirt bank they had been riding, there wasn't any money to be had. Long story short. I finally put it back on the road in '93, it now has another 100K miles on it and still is flat black. Yes, I did marry her. She came and rescued me... and helped put it back together.

16 years old drivin my 52 Chev that my Dad used to drive him and his buddies to work every day. I had my girl friend in the front and my buddy and another girl in the back gettin ready to cruise Bob s Big Boy, which was not on my list of places to be. Saw some friends workin on their cars and while I was wavin to them I ran into a parked truck. Boy was my Dad mad. Lost the girl friend couldn t drive the rest of the summer, but I had time to get rid of the powerglide and get a 3 speed with a floor shifter no more front bumper jack up the front end and lotsa primer so it wasn t a complete loss after all.

  13. Got rearended by a friend of mine. An old lady stopped on the on ramp in front of me. The guy smashed into a chieftan moredoor at 65 mph, he was changing a cd and looking down. No seat belt and I got smashed into the steering wheel, a reverse whiplash. Neck still doesn't turn all the way to the left 16 years later. Car lived, just had some body, decklid, and bumper damage. His was freaking totaled.

1950 (15 years old...you could get a license at 14 then) I had my '40 model Ford convertible for 2 weeks when my mom asked me to go to a store a few blocks away and pick up a carton of BBQ. I was excited and decided to take my dog along. Put the BBQ beside me and of course the dog couldn't stand it and started trying to get into it. As I was looking down, I ran into a car sitting parallel to the curb. No airbag :) Hit the steering wheel so hard it bent it over and cracked it (as well as my head). When I came to, the right door was open and my dog was wandering around in someone's front yard. She had flown off the seat so hard she bent the dash. Somehow, my dad helped get it rebuilt and even had it painted.

Best time I had in a small fender bender was in rush hour. Most the time I am not a nice guy driver. I don't let people infront of me.
This time there was a cute girl in a small chevy SUV that needed in my lane. I was driving this big, ugly, wheeled hard, dents all over, flames on the hood, 78 full size Jeep Cherokee. I slow up and let her in at the same time that everyone hits the brakes hard.
I couldn't stop and bounced off the back end of her. We pulled over and she get out saying "Im sooooo sorry. You were being nice and look what happened!"
With out missing a beat I say "I thought you were too cute to not get your number and this was the only way I knew to get it"
She laughed but I never got her number...

2 weeks to the day after getting my license. My moms 51 Chevy 4 dr. Sunday evening after church. My favorite AM R&R radio station went off the air at sundown. The girl in the front seat couldn't find the station that stayed on the air. I looked down at the radio and right back up to find a 54 Ford parked in the middle of a 4 lane road for no reason. I slammed on the brakes and my bumper ran under his rear bumper.

It didn't hurt his car but his bumper wasted the grill, right front fender, hood and the girls head put a nice spider web in the pass side windshield. She was more pissed about the run in her stockings than anything else. I had to go to 2 junk yards to find all the parts. I fixed it myself... a pea green 4 dr with a pale yellow hood and a gray fender.:D My first parts swapping job.

I had to work up the courage to go home and tell my parents.

The only accident I've ever had was driving a pizza delivery truck and a drunk pulled out in front of me. That was around 30 years ago.

My first car was a 54 Ford mainline in 1966,,,I bought it from an elderly gent that purchased it new in 54,,,the car was what was refered to at that time as a cream puff!

The car was original blue,,,,sporting the good old Ivory 6 and a 3 on the tree,,,just a basic old car that had been lovingly cared for from day one,,,,

Put a 16 year old with a size 12 foot on the gas pedal and the main bearings were history two days after the ink had dried on the title,,,this was the start of my obsession with all things mechanical,,,

With the help of a young hot rodder that was my grandfathers neighbor I learned first hand about digging into the bottom end of a automobile engine,,,,,the bearings were replaced,,,,,only to last a few weeks longer,,,,size 12 foot again.

Lesson learned,,,,comet cleanser will clean up grease and oil,,,,it will also remove a lotta hyde!

The next engine replacement chore was hired out to a local junkyard,,,,but this time it was a 1962 police interceptor,,,,the car would fly,,,but didn't stop as fast as it would go,,,,but I managed to avoid hitting anything for a while.

On a crisp fall morning when i was leaving my part time job at Sears for lunch at my girlfriends house when a lady pulled out of a side street in front of me driving a tank in the form of a mid 50's Plymouth and just stopped in the middle of both lanes,,,I swerved to the right and hit a telephone pole guide wire and barrel rolled my car,,,,two and a half times to come to a stop on the roof,,,,my 54 ford was gone,,,totaled,,,,I did manage to get out of the car with only minor cuts and scrapes,,,,got most of those from reaching back in the car to get that new Jimi Hendrex are you Experienced album.,,,I was that day! I had a mint 63' Beetle. I bought it off an old lady who had it for years. My brakes failed and I rearened a landscape trailer. My head went through and popped out the windshield. The whole front end was smashed in. I didn't have a scratch on me.

It turns out there was a hole in the brake line running inside on the floor board from the master cylinder to the rearend. I maded all the repairs and repainted the car. Still my best paint job. And stainless brake lines throughout.

My dad bought the car from me about 10 years ago so I could buy a Harley. Sold the Harley for my Merc. I'm glad the Bug is still in the family....

  21. 68 Camaro, been in the family since it was new, built my first sbc for it at 16....at 18 hit a railroad crossing concrete base at about 40 going sideways going through an S turn with some new gravel...pushed the firewall and floor up to the pedals....20 years later it is just started its path to being back on teh road, thanks in part to all the after market firewalls, floors etc you can buy now. just bodywork left, 383(500hp or so) and richmond 5 spd and 12 bolt. Just one more year my baby....

I was toolin' along about 30mph in my 1981 rabbit diesel, looked down to flip the Dokken cassette tape over, looked back up and WHAM! Rear ended a 1971 Plymouth Valiant. Needless to say, destroyed my poor rabbit. Plymouth had a bent license plate.

13 years old had Aunt who lived way out in the country, she would let me drive when we went fishing,I went to spend the weekend with her and asked her if we was going fishing Sat,morning, she said she had to go get her hair done but if I promised not to tell my Dad I could take the car,48 Plymouth business coupe ,to the river, heck her nearest neighbor was 4 miles away,I took off early dirt road all the way lots of tight curves and all on plantation land,no traffic to worry about,Here I go,hauling ass around a big sweeping curve and, damn, right in the middle of the road stands a big herdford cow, well didn"t want to hit the cow so I jerked the car back the other way ,lost it and plowed into a pine tree.took out the grill, hood, radiator, fan and drawed both front fenders towards middle of car.needless to say,she didn"t let me drive for along time, but never did tell my Dad.

I didn't wreck my first car, my Dad did. I had just got it running after putting a different engine in it. My dad was backing out of the yard into the driveway after loading up his station wagon. There was a heavy dew and his shoes were wet, his foot slipped off the brake onto the gas and he slammed into the left front fender of my '63 Impala with the right rear corner of his car. It caved my fender in but only cracked the tail light trim on his. He never offered to fix it.... at the time it was just a beat up old 200 dollar car and not worth fixing but I'd kill to find one in that condition today for under 5 grand.

  25. Not the first, but bad enough anyway.:(
The worst I think was wrecking my younger brothers, new to him at the time, 66 dodge charger. 3 weeks and 300 ft up the road from where I wrecked my 57 t-bird right after I got home from nam.

16 years old with a 1970 440 6pak 4 speed Road Runner. Showing off for my buddies. Banged 2nd, car did a 180 and went backwards of a bank along the creek and stuffed it into a big rock. When we towed it out I noticed the driver's side mirror was missing. Found it wrapped around one of those metal spike footpegs about 4 foot off the ground on the telephone pole I barely missed. Went to the wrecking yard and got a new fender and drove the shit out of that car until the cops zebra tagged it and I had to sell it.

Mine was a 1973 Gremlin. Cragar's, Yellow, Black stripes like the factory but endless line over multy colours. Murial on the hood.

Going through a car wash (that will teach me) a drunk drives through the car wash in a 65 Galaxie, smashing off the arms and parts of the car wash and rear ends my Gremlin pushing the rear bumper up to the wheels and blowing out the rear window. Yes I got wet!! and *issed. I had finished the car two week before.

Car wash owner phoned the cops, The Drunk stumbles out of his car and says" Why the Hell are you stopped, It's a drive through Car Wash"!!

Yup it was a Red Letter Day. Had the car Towed back to the shop and started to repair it the next day.

    The Old Tinbasher

  30. I crashed my first NEW car............get this, a 1968 Camaro L89 Convertible........only 2 are known to exist today......................I wrecked it after only ten days............I cried.
