Help! tearing down a 53 chevy 235 for the first time, we are down to the crank but i need advice as to how to remove the hamonic balancer front pully. does it need to be pulled? There is no bolt only a wierd looking opening in the center i ***ume for a crank. If its pulled how would it go back on? Also, I want to buy a new or rebuilt carb for a running 216 engine and eventually use it on this 235 once its rebuilt. 235 is going in a 52 pickup and i want to keep my manual choke etc. Thanks Ken

There are two threaded holes on the front of the balancer(beside the crankhole) I used a steering wheel type puller and mine came off no problem. Mel

  3. The 216 carb won't fit on the 235 manifold. The bolt spacing is different.

The damper goes back on with a block of wood and a big hammer.

As stated, a 216 carb won't bolt to a 235 intake, but 235 truck carbs used manual chokes right through the end of 235s in '62.

will the 216 intake fit the 235? Ken

  7. The ports on the 216 manifold are smaller. There are alignment rings that fit into the manifold and the head.

They do make an adapter for this though...

Might be an option. The Rochester B carb was a manual choke that came on the trucks. There was a 216 carb on eBay for $25. A rebuild kit is about $15. That's what I would do. Then when you get the 235 built I'd get the 235 carb.

A 216 intake won't bolt to a 235 exhaust manifold. Two of the four boltholes don't line up, and the mating surfaces are machined at different angles.
