The 235 six which I'm running in my 51 chev has begun to throw a fit.Runs fine one day no power the next. Put a new carb and a tune . this thing has a good idle but wnats to fall on its face as soon as you let the clutch out. any ideas on where to look?
Sounds like a fuel supply prob. When it's acting up check fuel delivery at the carb ,should have a pint in 15-20 seconds crankin and 3-5 psi. You may have something in the tank blocking the pickup or even a pin hole in the line from tank to pump.
if you have the original tank you probably have rust in it and its stopping up the fuel line, my 54 was like this, i pulled the old rusted tank out, got me a boat fuel tank and and put it in the trunk, im looking for a new 54 tank now
Have you ran it low on gas recently? 10 : 1 you have shit in the fuel line, mine acted like that, cleaned the tank, new 3/8 lines and double filters, I'm good to go. There are reasonable replacement tanks from NCA, chevs of the 40s and plastic ones at Minnesota hot rod supply? Can't remember the exact name.
I had my tank coated. Works fine and saves me worrying about it. About the cost of a replacement though! Jim
