I have a gasser that I bought that needs king pin bushings. My question is how do you tell if it's a Ford or Chevy straight axle? I was told is was a 40 chev pickup but it looks like a econline axle. There isn't any markings on it that I can see. The guy I got the car from buys and sells and some of the other stuff he told me wasn't what he said it was.

    Any help would be great

its not Econoline. Definately GM. Judging by the brake drums, i'd agree with the 40 Chevy Truck. It looks very similar to the 53 Chevy truck axle in my Henry J.

Brakes are the 51-59 truck style, the king pins had some slight variation between years. 41-55 are the same, 55-56 are the same 57-59 are mostly the same (thicker thrust bearing on the earlier ones). This page will help you figure out what year it is, from measurements
