Setting up straight axle on a 57 Chevy. No front clip at this time. Body off the frame. Need to know a measurement? From the center of the body mount under the door hinges to the center of the spindle. Also, where to put the engine? Measurement from center of firewall body mount to centerline of side engine mount. Any information on helping a guy out on how to set up straight axle would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe Snake

You can set your wheelbase from the centerline of the rear axle.

You should have the body on the frame when you mount the engine...no matter how many times you measure it's always better to be able to reference the engine location with the body on the frame...

Yeah, for some reason if you put it at the stock wheelbase measurement, it looks set back. On a small car, (like my Falcon) I only moved it 1/2 in. forward, and it made a big difference in the way it looked from 30-40 ft. away.
I would defiantly put the body on, w/front fenders in place , to mock up engine location & the front axle. As usual, JMO & 2 cents worth!:D
