I might be selling one of my Edmunds Dual intake for the Buick 320 Roadmaster engine. I know how rare they are to find for the 320.

heres mine,I got a 41-42 compound manifold for it from ebay. A bit more than I wanted to pay but none the less it works fine.the motor mount had to be reconstructed so it could fit without hitting them.

Motor looks good. Got a few of those 41-42 intakes as well. I am currently using an Edmunds on my 263ci motor with the dual exhaust as well. Had to modify the motor like you found out. Is that a Holley fuel pressure regulator running between the carbs?

OK, here is a load of Buick Straight info. Conversion to 5 speed, etc. He even has plans to convert to fuel injection. The car is in Finland and the owner is a super nice guy. There is hours of info on this site for the Buick guy.

Yep, thats Jyrki from over on the Buicks.net website. real good guy and does most if not all of his own work. His manifold is pretty sick.

I see your idea there Rich, but I'm concerned if the engine is heading into a Buick body.

If you look at Jyrki's awesome setup, peek at his rear carb. Some mods had to happen for it to fit. I'm thinking that your setup will run into similar clearance issues. It's why I decided to go with two sidedrafts instead of four- they'll be further from the firewall and I should have plenty of room to run them without interference.

Of course, if this is headed into a hoodless rod, I take it all back and will raise a shot of Black Label in your honor, cuz that's just plain cool!

  10. Scotch,
I've contemplated this for awhile, and still haven't firmed my mind up on it...what are your thoughts?
Would it be more beneficial to use the larger displacement (torque) or the smaller displacement (rpm) in a drag style car?
It started off as a 198 vs 225 slant six argument, but carries over to the straight 8 too.
With the slant, the weight is essentially the same, so the argument has different meaning, but with the 263 vs 320, what are your thoughts?

www.teambuick.com is a good site for old buick power (including a forum for straight 8 power). Knowledgable people there.

By the way, I have a 1950 Super Riviera (263). Way cool. Mine is overheating right now. I think that I have crap stuck in the water jacket.

    Currently mine is still stock:

Been there in the 60s with a 4 main bearing 225 Hyper Pak slant 6 in a 51 Anglia running H/Gas. They dont like the clutch dumping at 5000, breaks the crank at the rear flange where the flywheel bolts on. Engine stays running but car wont move, very strange feeling. After 4 motors went to a 300 Ford 6, then couldnt keep flywheels on so sold it all and went stocker racing

Can any of you Buick guys that have the original equalizer arm/dashpot assembly working in your car post a few more pics of it? I've got a '41 intake, dual exhauster header and dual Holley carbs inherited with the my '50 Buick (248ci) and want to do something similar to RalphBoy161's setup. My equalizer arm is dangling loose but appears to be intact, I'm just having a tough time visualizing how it's secured (is a brace welded to the firewall at the bottom?). The shop manual has one pic of it that's very cramped and tough to make out.

Any close shots of the top and bottom of the mechanism, how it's all connected, clear of the steering column, would be MOST appreciated!

Also, those of you running duals (or just non-stock Carters), I see in some pics that the vacuum line to the intake is non-existant with the port on the intake blocked off, as well as no breather(?) line to the controller on the Carter. What did you do with these lines at their sources?

Lastly, finding the 'Y' block that marries the dual exhaust headers is almost impossible. I saw one on ebay once, machined or reconditioned, but haven't seen another since and am wondering if it's worth the trouble of hunting one down. I think that piece worked to heat the air and keep the engine from stumbling when cold. Have any of you that aren't using that piece experienced problems or have any advice if I were go without it and just hook into the exhaust system?

    Thanks!!

Rich, are those going to be running sidedraft carbs or is that an older fuel injection setup you are planning to run?

It is a fuel injection manifold that I made for another HAMBer. The throttle bodies are from a 2002 or so Ford 4.6 SOHC engine. I have made a few of these for bangers and one for a 261 Chevy six. All the rest of it is standard Hilborn

The Jag has a way cool EFI setup and is turbo charged. Also an outstanding car. The whole Buick eight deal at Bonneville has been growing lately. I always thought they should be fast in there with GMCs and such. But I had a GMC so thats what I stuck with in XOB.

The mechanical FI manifold was my sole contribution to Jeff's effort and I was paid for that. The whole Chopped Buick race car is his idea. Here are two more construction shots I took to send him to show progress. Then my computer went down so I never took any pictures of it togeather.

Has anyone ever put a buick straight 8 in a 1951 chevy truck .What is the length from Bellhousing face to the fan?????? Will it bolt up to my chevy grandma 4speed, or to the bell housing .I love inlines , to see my blown rail inline drop a email, but the 235 is getting a little weak in the truck ,and that would be cool to have a buick there instead of another . Imagine the look at the track when my tow truck comes in with that torque monster.

I ran into an old trucker that told me he used to install Buick 320 engines in his trucks. He would buy used trucks with worn out engines and install Buick straight 8,s. He had several trucks even a pickup at his place with both straight 8,s or V8 nailheads. Even had a ski boat with a nailhead. He said he drove over the infamous 'grapevine' pass to Bakersfield and loved the straight 8,s power.

  30. My old '8 w/factory 4bbl. In my opinion one of t eh most beautiful engines ever, I need to get my hands on another.
