I bought a pallet of heads at an auction because it had some 6 cylinder (possibly 235) heads on it. Pictures only and not that great, but took my chances. I did get a 848 that is marked "new head", so that is great. But the question I am having a hard time researching is the NOS eight head that is in its original shipping crate. I do not want to pry away, or cut the banding as someone might want it the way it is packaged for a display or pattina, etc. Anyway, it's an 8 cylinder flathead with GM and 4058(?)1 casting number. There might be two numbers under the strap, but not sure. I am making an assumption that is is an Oldsmobile head as there are some tags and scribbles on the wood supporting such. But it might be for another GM, but I don't think it's Pontiac, and Buick was overhad valve. Anyway, anyone have any idea what I got??? Thanks!!! 20241026_152608.jpg 20241026_152640.jpg 20241026_152647.jpg 20241026_152654.jpg 20241026_152733.jpg 20241026_152600.jpg 20241026_152744.jpg 20241026_152816.jpg 20241026_152807.jpg

Found in the '32-'38 Olds L-series.

That is what I thought, but I can't find that number anywhere and the pictures on the innerweb show even spacing of the sparkplugs. Even the Oldsmobile staight eight video has even spaced spark plugs.

The picture you posted doesn't look like the right engine, it says GMC on it near the front?

I found a picture of an Olds engine, the spark plug spacing looks the same as your head, to me.

L-36 that sold a while ago, on an auction site.

The picture I posted was a 1932, i.e., L-32. I thought they were the same, but not true. I found a car, L-35, with a postage stamp size picture of the head and I can just about read the serial number 405891. So, they must have changed the plug layout for '35 and '36. Hard to find picture showing the casting number for sure.
