I'm in the market for a straight front axle ***embly for a mid 60's g***er type car I'm gathering parts to build. New territory for me. Are there any parts vendors out there that sells this sort of thing? Hoping for a GM version.
    Thanks for any help.

    FYI....

Watch your width on the frontend. The Speedway straight axle is 46" between the king pin bosses. This is the reason I went with their 4" drop axle....its 48". The 46" looks real narrow on some cars. Mine would have looked like **** if I got that one.

    so beware.

Now, I just saw something interesting the other day in the Speedway 2006 RACE catalog...they are WELD IN AXLE ENDS. Price: $29.99 each. I don't see why a fella couldn't get a pair of them and make his own straight axle. They look like they slip inside a tube and then get welded on. They look plenty strong to me.....maybe I'm wrong though????? Anyone got any info on these?

    Awesome stuff! Thanks guys.

Tingler, thx for the tips on width. It's a concern of mine. I'm going to be building a 65 GTO g***er. It's gotta be fairly similar to your car in width.
Those weld in axle ends look interesting! Do you have any close up pics of your front suspension that you could email me? philupton@earthlink.net

    Keep the info coming guys!!

  6. I have very few new parts no my rod. I did deside that with all the flattie weight up front, I was gonna use a new axle. Im very happy with my Superbell I-beam (Speedway Motors).

After you grind off their logo, and leave it buried in the back yard all winter.

It looks rightous enough to be rattle canned and bolted on.

I use the speedway stuff all the time , on the straight one we take it to a local fabricator and have it widend in the center with a lug inside also they get like 50 bucks to do it and can't tell it has been done we added 8 inches to one for a 57 chev and looked good, i have the 4 inch one under my 55 and love it.

you can go to MAS and they will build it to your width for you just call as all the catalogs for them are old but they have many things avail you don't see.....good luck g***ers rule....

  12. Nothing wrong with this so long as you use a high strength tubing.

How do folks think DIRT Modified and sprint car front axles are made?

I noticed that in the catalog too. It doesn't seem like much, but 2" can make a big difference (that's what she said...). So I also decided to go w/ the 48" wide drop axle on my altered.

Can't seem to find MAS on the net. Do they have a website?

If I figure out what center to center distance I need I imagine Speedway and MAS will then figure out what length axle I need, no? I don't know the measurements of the kingpin to tire mount face on these old setups.

    Hey....

I might be able to answer your question.

First off. PICS. I need to find some of my set up. I have long since downloaded them onto a disk and now I'm having problems finding the disk. haha.

Next. The width thing. Here's how I did it. I measured from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. On my Fairlane it worked out to be like 59 1/2" or something (can't remember)

Speedway told me to add 10" to the measurements they give in the catalog...This accounts for the disk brakes.

Example: 48" king pin to king pin + 5" each side for disk brake rotors (10") = 58".....close enough for my application

    Does that help?
