Hey all, what would be the best way to fix stripped threads in a windshield frame for a 46 Chevy truck? The holes I’m referring to are the ones that mount the windshield frame to the hinges. Rivnut? Helicoil? Or just drill and retap for the next size up bolt? Or is there a better way?
First in with "need pics." There are lots of guys here that have experience repairing stripped threads who have no idea what a 46 Chevy windshield frame looks like.
the windsheild frame on these are hollow. i never had one strip but i usually replace the frame with a new one. i would think a rivnut to repair it. it doesnt have a lot of stress on it so that should work fine. just make sure the hinges and the swivel on the regulator are lubed and move freely.
Nutserts work fairly well, so do the rubber well nuts. I don't know the thickness of the material in those frames, but a quick zap with the mig and a drill and tap would put you back in service as well. Rivnuts are a great idea, until they start spinning when you're trying to take a bolt back out
