Any opinions , pro/cons , on using a stroked crank in a Ford B engine? What else to be changed/considered ...before doing so
Unless you are also using an overhead camshaft conversion the nearness of the camshaft limits the stroke increase(Check the old literature or w/modern builders like H&H,et.al.:the old racers realised they were limited to not much more than 215", & even that meant shaving the rods for clearance on the cam side of the engine!) I suppose you could offset the crank & cam away from each other, but then you get into wierd alignment issues with lifter/cam & bore/crank centerline issues, to say nothing of basic timing gear relationships/sizes. Even with OH cams it was apparently not reliable to go much more than 220" with a "B" block: most of the old racers were "money-Runners"; fast wasn't enough; to make money you needed to take the checkered flag while still running, so they went for reliablility(durability). These motors weren't cheap in the 'old-days' & had to earn their 'keep'. Hope this helps.
There's got to be somebody out there who's actually done it & can give "numbers", pieces, parts & required "mods" to make them work, if only for a little while?
