I have 2 big block long blocks in the garage. One is near stock with just a .030 overbore. The other is a stroker 489, forged crank, roller Crane cam, a decent engine that needs a little freshening. My question is what’s the max I can take a BB 454 out to by traditional boring and stroking before striking water? Am I better buying a 502 block or going with an aftermarket block? I’d prefer to use up as much as I can of what’s laying around here. This will be a street big torque engine ideally. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I wouldn't go over 60, 30 is better on the street. You could have it sonic checked before you bore it. I've ran early blocks 125 over but that was on a drag car and I figure I was lucky.
Go over 500ci with this. https://www.jegs.com/p/Chevrolet-Pe...-Tie-Sportsman-Engine-Blocks/2812294/10002/-1 We did a 505 with a 427 truck block.... 4 1/4" stroke, and .100 over but we had concrete in botttom end, bracket racing. The block mentioned above is clearanced for 4.5" stroke.
