I have a couple Stromberg 48 cores I was thinking about putting on my flathead, but I worried it will be too many CFMs.

    My engine:
    221 bored to 230ci
    Headers
    Offy heads
    Super dual intake
    '42 distributor
Unknown cam (most likely stock or possibly mild)

Should I shelf the 48s in favor of 97s or 94s?

Jet them down but CFM should not be a problem. My I suggest you contact Uncle Max and ask for his recommendations.

    I'm running dual 48s with straight linkage on a .030 over 255.
    I wouldn't jet them down.

running one 48 surrounded by 2 97's. I jetted it down because the motor was running very rich and it showed on the plugs. Response now is better and fuel economy improved. There is a reason that 48's were only offered a couple of years as progress was made in the history of the flathead.
