Why would the manufacturer put holes in the carb base? They are Above the throttle plates and are about 3/32" dia. I have 2 of these carbs and the holes are in both. It's on a 232 v8.

They are something to do with hot fuel percolation.

As mentioned by Pontmerc, one early method of "hot idle compensation".

Most folks don't observe the holes.

Rochester began using slotted gaskets between the throttle body and the bowl that EVERYONE notices!

Thanks, best answer I have gotten yet. The holes are pretty well hidden when carb is fully assembled.
