Technical Stromberg Jetting ??

    I have asked in a couple of diff. forums, no answers. 241 hemi, .400/.400 regrind cam, I am running 2 Stromberg WW 3-119, on a Vintage Speed 2x2 on a stock cast iron 2bbl. manifold. Currently, my jetting is .046, and it is running good, but, pretty rich on my new rebuild. The problem is, I have no idea where I should start as far as jetting goes. Carbs originally had .052 (?) to start. With jets at 10- 20 a pair, I'm not looking to invest a couple of hundred dollars in the "hopes" of "maybe" getting lucky with the jetting. I don't want to wash down the cylinders and cause damage, blah blah blah,lol.

    Anyone have any experience or advise they can impart on me?

    Jets are designed to work with their venturis, so something pretty close to the standard is going to be correct regardless of displacement/number of carbs...any problems will largely be in operation of off-idle and maybe power circuits.
    When venturis are flowing enough air to function, they will function about right...but engine will be running more of the time on idle and off idle before venturis get enough air...not a jetting issue. Sometimes jetting can usefully go down SLIGHTLY on multicarb setups because shorter passages/better distribution allow cutting back on the extra richness that is used on stockers to compensate for long passages and bad distribution on single car rigs. On an engine with much variation in distribution through the manifold, the mixture must be a bit rich for some cylinders to avoid worse trouble in the lean ones. Distribution is often much better on multi-carb setups.
    By the way, these carbs are not close relatives of the 97 type family.

    If you really want to learn something get a leak tester and connect it to a jet holder. Then you can compare actual flow thru an orfice. You might see measurable differances between jets that are numbered the same!
