That title almost sounds like a whiskey I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me with the differences between an BXOV-2 and -3 besides the base size and why only the automatic vehicles ran them, the BXV-3 and BXVD-35. I've got a 235 (bored .30 over) with a 3/4 cam from Delta Cams, Fenton repro dual carb intake (2 15/16" bolt spacing, hence the question), Fenton cast iron headders, and a ported/polished head. This is all in a 4-spd '60 Chevy truck. I'm afraid I'll over carb the motor if I use two of these BXVD-35 carbs I found locally. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
This may help somewhat: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Strombergcodebreakdown.htm http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Dual1barrelcarbs.htm Jon.
Thanks Jon, that did help some. From what I understand, if I want to keep the manual choke, a -3 car would be better. The guy says he has an old plymouth BXUV-3 that would work, but I'd need to find another to match it. I believe the top of the carb has a 15-22 stamped into it....does this need to match on my other carb? If not, how can I tell if the jets are similarly sized?
With your engine, I would suggest 2 of the size 2 carbs, and redrill and rethread the intake. For best results, the carbs should match. Any there is a LOT more to matching the carbs than just the jets. There are several different internal venturi sizes for each of either the size 2 or size 3 carbs. Two size 2 carbs will give you better low end. Two size 3 carbs MIGHT give you a couple more horses at W.O.T. only. Trailer race car....use the size 3's, but for street, you will probably be happier with the 2's. Jon.
i have 2 bxov-2 carbs on a mostly stock 216 ----besides headers .. it runs a tad rich but i am very happy with the carbs . they have been running great coming up on 3 years now!
there is a hamb thread called 1953 stromberg carburetor catalog. it may list the specs you are looking for
