Anyone out there that is familiar with the town of Yem***ee, SC exit 38 We were Heading to Billetproof, but the alternator or voltage regulator appears to be having an issue, maybe both? The 58 was runnin' down the Hwy SO GOOD TOO, until it started discharging like hell .. had to stop at a super 8 till morning, damn. Anyone know if there is an auto zone around this area ? From where I stand doesn't look like this is an active area ..?
Looks like there is one not to far away... Autozone - (843) 549-7280 - 580 Bells Hwy, Walterboro, SC - 19.39mi
The closest I can see via Google is Jerry's Auto Parts. The a couple of carquests south of there but not real real close. The place is on Combahee Rd. off 17 if that makes any sense? Hope this helps some. Good luck!
She was runnin so fine too ... Right up till ... lol kinda like you always find what your looking for, in the last place you look .. lol Oh Well we'll get it fixed in the am, just hate waiting for morning to break.
I can't find any HAMB guys that are close. Boones would have probably been the closest in Charleston but he's moved to the PNW.
If u need help i will ride up there to help u out i'm about a hour away. heres my cell give me a call in the morning 912 484 6865 Tim
kustomriv ... WOW thanks, I think we'll be ok ... the car will still start, we should be able to get to an auto zone in the daylight, .. but I'll keep your number handy just in case ... THANK YOU !!!!!
hotrodladycrusr ... DITTO thanks for looking ... As long as I can find an Auto Zone we should be good ...
I know you have probably thought of this, but pull a battery cable with everything turned off and see if you get a spark when you touch the cable to the post. If you have developed a short, it could lead to a fire. Simple stuff, but it just takes a minute. Good luck.
I'll check that in the am, thanks for the words of wisdom, FIRE is a bad word, we just had a fire in the engine bay of our 66 wagon a few month ago.
flamedAbone is in charleston. DeuceRoadster is in Columbia What hwy are you on.. are you at exit 38 near NC or near GA
Boones ... He is @ Exit 38 on I-95 ... which is about 50 miles from the I-26 and I-95 junction. It is 60 miles from my house to that junction so he is about 110 miles from where I am. Still Runnin ... I used to go thru Yem***ee going to Laurel Bay every other weekend ... for a good while. I know of NO parts stores in Yem***e ( it is little 1 horse town ) There are a couple of AutoZone and Advance stores in Walterboro. Walterboro is EXIT 57 off I-95. NAPA and a Car Quest also have stores in Walterboro. Is is about as close to go into Beaufort SC ... where there are more car parts stores. NAPA and Car Quest has a store down I-95 in Ridgeland SC ... Sorry I could not be more help or be closer.
the Place we went to this morning was well not so good, nuff said for right now, we're heading to exit 22 South I-95 for some other place .. wish me luck, no lights needed should be OK to get to repair. THANKS TO EVERYONE !!!

Sorry guys, couldn't post anymore once we got back on the road for the alternator hunt! Yes we made it !! I want to THANK everyone who took the time to keep checking this thread to help out! You guys all rock! The show was fantastic, the Vette came home without a hitch! I have been wanting to start a directory of place that work on old stuff that comes with a trusted endor*****t from fellow hot rodders so that when we get "Stuck" we might be able to get to a shop that is worthy. So if any of you know of a shop or have a shop please let me know and I will start a directory. Again to all Thanks for caring !!!!!
I come to this thread way after the fact, but I've spent some serious time around Edisto Island and Walterboro SC. God's country. As soon as I saw Walterboro I knew there would be a good outcome.
Yup the 58 is resting from her run, and so I am, took way over 1,000 photos, there is no need to go to the gym this week, I must've done 1200 squats taking pics, there were 650 cars at the show, each very cool, way diverse in styles and years, lots of creative, talented folks out there. I'll have event coverage in SR, there are lots of great pics being posted from Billetproof, the show is worth the trip if anyone has 2nd thoughts, just go, it was great! Again thanks to all who were looking out for a fellow gearhead on the road!
whew, deep breath, glad you made it sounds like you had fun.thought there for a min aliens might have came into the picture. when you have more time let us know what went wrong one of those stories you can look back on a laugh about in a few years.
Oh yes as one HAMBER put it "A one horse town", it was indeed that. And a story to look back on and laugh, YUP this is one of them I'm affraid to say. ..... We first stopped at a local shop, it appeared that Big John and the owner didn't hit it off too well, enough said. Then the hunt for an Auto Zone, etc. began with day break, the hunt for an alternator .... no one had it, town to town to town, Finally Nappa found one in Beaufort, SC for us, nice people there by the way. So in the parking lot the tools come out to exchange the alternator ..... and ... as we start taking the old one off ALAS a little tiny wire is not connected !!!! Wire is too short to reconnect, go back in store buy some wire, reconnect and ... WA LA! All is well in alternator land! AARRGGHH this could've have been repaired first thing or the night before IF WE HAD taken it apart in the dark ..... lol SO we didn't need a new alternator or voltage regulator just a some new wire! And off to Billetproof we went with no further adu' The pre party was Great, the show was Great, the weather was Great, after doing at least 1200 sqauts from taking over 1,000 photo, the Trip home was long ..... lol legs sore, no gym needed this week, got my exercise at Billetproof.
Yes ... I told you Yem***ee is a one horse town. I also told you Beaufort was your best bet ... But the next time you are in Yem***e ... when you cross the railroad tracks in Yem***ee ... check out the Bar-B-Que place ... it is GOOD ... just not open for breakfast ...
Indeed you did tell me, as we were rooting thru the towns I had told Big John what you had said, and even thought to myself ... well here we are ...lol !!
