Is There Any Studebaker Guys On This Board? I Lust And Yearn For A Studebaker Hawk, Any Specie Silver/gold Turismo Etc, How About Some Pictures Of These Cars?
Last year, found a screaming deal on a '56 Studebaker Champion for my buddy Cat -- also here in Chicago. He replaced the hoses, put coolant in it, changed oil, bought a battery, drove to get new tires to replace the dry rotted bias plys --and drove it back to Chicago from a barn in Michigan. He's not on the HAMB yet, but soon... JR
I got my hopes up when i saw Jonesboro, but wrong one. My local steel man has a couple '58's he will probably never get around to doing. (Someone told him they bolt right onto an s10 chassis). Also there is an old junkyard in Griffin with a circa '48 Stude truck.
That would be the yard. Been by, but not in. However i have friends that have pulled a 302 GMC flywheel and a '57 Chevy spindle, so I'm going to have to set aside a Saturday (their only day open).
Phil, the dude's name that owns the place is Kenny I believe. He specializes in Ford stuff, best I remember. Have not been there in about 5 years.
Our race car at http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/hooley/hooley-2005.html Hooley also drives one like the race car on the street. He bought parts off of the car in the salvage to build his street car and later went back and bought the rusted hull to build the salt flat car. Here is the link to the build http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/temp-pictures/hooley-2004.html
I have a 57 Studebaker Silverhawk, nice to see others that appreciate the character of these cars. Starcrossed
I'm an officer in the local chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club and am currently "between Studebakers" as we say. Started with a wrecked '52 Commander, then almost finished a '49 Champion before another member "just had to have it". Hoping my next one will be a '53 Loewy coupe, or a nice finned Hawk, or a bulletnose convertible (now I'm dreaming). There are lots of SDC club members on the HAMB, and other Stude folks, too.
I'm building a 1950 Stude truck for my daily, and I have a 59 lark custom. The flamed 58 in the pic is my Dads, he is also building a 1942 champion coupe.
I have a '54 coupe, a faux bonneville flats car. This year the big meet is in South Bend, In. don't miss it.
I'm a Lifetime member of The Studebaker Drivers Club. The Hawks are around you just have to do some searching. My 1st Stude was a 1950 Champion Starlight Coupe that I had in high school, it is sitting in my garage waiting to be redone. Current driver is my 37 Coupe Express. Also have done and driveable 1930 Erskine, 1957 Transtar truck and 1963 GT Hawk. Projects include my 1950, a 1937 Coupe, 1955 wagon and a 1960 2dr hardtop. Also have 2 El Caminos and two Model A projects.
