    Stude started using their own V/8 engines in 1951. They were puny little 232 cubic inches but I believe any stude block will go in there. The stude 289 was a respectable engine. Stude even offered a supercharger on it by 56-57 or so. I usta ride with a school buddy at lunch time back in high school. He drove a 57 Golden Hawk with a supercharged 289 and a four speed...all stock. That would be awesome in a 52. What body is yours?

    any stude block (224, 232, 259, 289, 304) will bolt right in. If you get a later motor it will have a full flow oil filter. You can pick up a 259 in running condition for pretty cheap usually cause the people who want stude motors want the 289s.

    Don't you have a Champion?

    and doesn't that have the center bell crank steering?

    might want do some carefull measuring.

    I thought the Studilacs were made using Comanders?

    They came with a completely different front suspension and had a lot more room for the V8.

    It's a champ!!?? wow, that makes me look dumb. However, I think that all the suspension is the same from 1950 onward. The brakes and stuff are smaller on the champ, but I think all the steering stuff is the same. Mine is a commander and it has the center bellcrank...

    Howdy;

    D-wagen is right, the 259 is probably the easiest since the mounts should be the same as the 232. When Stude quit making engines in 64, they used the SBC as the replacment. The SBC has a rear sump and rear distributor like the stude and is a bit lighter, though it will take some engine mount fab. Frames are pretty much the same although not exactly after 1950 with bellcrank steering, so a front sump engine would pose a few more difficulties, but probably not impossible since the bronco and some econolines had rear sumps.

    The gauge thickness of the frames was pretty light on some of the six cylinder cars, so if your car has a lot a rust, make sure the frame has enough meat to take more power.

    Make it a driver.
