I've got the pics.... This is the Golf which has just been traded for the Stude.... Not a bad deal....
The tailights are ugly yet Cool at the same time. Not bashing it just thinking aloud. Late 50's /Early 60's sun faded drivers are like Puppies. I wanna take em ALL home...
If you got the Studie - good deal - Wagonaire sliding roof to boot. If it was the other way round - well, bad luck.
Studes are cool... of course I'm biased. Wagonaires are VERY cool. That things full of possibilities. Join the Studebaker Drivers Club and everyone on the forum will give you all the technical advise you need to bring that one back to life.
that sliding roof panel is just the cat's pajamas. Golf is a great car...dependable....reliable....economical...timeless....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...oh, sorry, I dozed off there. That stude is great...make it work...stuff a supercharged Packard V8 in there, or an R-3 Avanti engine with a 4speed. Leave the body alone (except for necessary repairs and any color but whatever's on there now. Some nice period-perfect mag wheels and you're good to go.
and the sliding roof is VERY cool. i have to agree with dreddy. take 'em all home and cuddle with them...wait...what?
too many doors, the sliding roofs always leak, those automatics aint nothin to write home about and resale value is near nil. Golf in equal condition should be easier to sell and for more money. so yeah he did ok. what's in it? 289? overdrive? twin track rear?
The only good VW's have diesels with stick shifts. If that one was a gas motor I'd have made that trade 100 times over. No question.
sliding roof? i dont believe ive ever seen that! any way i could talk you into posting a pic with the roof slid open?... ill send you a snackycake
my brother got the Studebaker, they got the Golf. it's got a V-8 (not sure which one, probably the 259) 3-on-the-tree and overdrive. it runs, doesn't smoke, the shift linkage needs work, and one of the wheel cylinders leaks. oh yeah,it's got disc brakes! talk to you later,i gotta go wash it and clean it out and start getting it roadworthy...
late model VW are disgraceful, good riddance .... there Usually only driven by the mentally deficient.
Love Wagonaires. I had a '64 with a factory R1, 4-speed and disc brakes. The roof leaked and it was pretty rusty and like an IDIOT I parted it out about 15 years ago. It was restorable but at the time it would have cost me three times what the car would be worth to do the restoration. The R1 engine and the rear axle housing are now in my '56 Champion.
There's something ironic about a guy calling other people mentally deficient and using the wrong form of "they're" to do it. (I had a VW once, too. Granted I was a kid and didn't know any better, but still...)
