Studebaker truck pics wanted

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by -, Aug 5, 2004.

1. My 14 year old neighbor wants to get an old truck for a project for his first car. I know of a 46 Studebaker truck cab and front end that is nice and in his price range. Does anybody have any pics of one that looks cool to give him an idea of it's potential?
Thanks

Hey Clark,
I haven't got back to Clearfield to pickup the 50 Stude pickup I bought yet.
If the boy wants that I'll let it go cheap.
Sorry I don't have any pics of it.
It's rough but buildable.

Cool pics guys, but I think if your gonna chop one of those things it would need sectioning as well! Definitly different!!!

9. Thanks for the pics. I have always liked this style truck and have a couple of cool ideas for one. Sectioning one would be easy. First I'd take a couple of inches out of the panel below the door. I wouldn section the hood I'd take it out of the panel below the hood. Another thing I thought is the rear fenders would look better if they were put on backwards (switch side to side)

Not sure if the kid is going to be able to get it yet.

The purple truk with the Chrysler quads belongs to Ckustoms of ColoRODo Springs...it's an old 60's survivor, uses '62 Chrysler tail fins and taillights and a Nomad tailgate...he's on this board sometimes...owns Back Street Kustoms in ColoRODo Springs.

Hate to burst your bubble, but 62 Chryslers didn't have fins. 61's did...

46stude,
I believe I read that your truck is on a Chevy LUV ch***is. Is that right?

Can you tell me what the tread width is? I have been thinking about a 50's (C cab) Stude truck on a Dodge Dakota ch***is and the dimensions look close.

The late 40s models look cool, too and I got to wondering if Studebaker used the same ch***is for both models...

Thanks,
Dave

Yep, mine's on a LUV ch***is. Tread width is about 55 or so inches. Its actually kinda narrow, but the LUVs have 6 lug wheel patterns & I'm going to use adapters to make it a 5 lugger. The adapters will widen the track width to where I want it. I have some chromed wagon wheels on it right now & it looks fine, but they have a good amount of backspacing. The rear end from the LUV is too narrow to use, though. I'll be swapping a Ford 8 or 9 inch into it, so that don't matter either.

Ch***is are not the same from the M series to the C series, but I can't remember the differences in dimensions off hand. A Dakota would probably be a good donor for a C cab.

Here is one of my favorites. This pic is a scanned copy of a Hot Rod Magazine Trading card from 1966 or so. I've had it since then.

The truck is called the Wild Cherry. According to the info on the back of the card, it has 6 cylinder power, and was dropped 4 inches. I like the custom work on the front: canted quads, peaked hood, and '58 Buick squares in the stock grill opening.

A slightly different version of the truck appears in the 1963 Peterson Spotlite book Custom Pickups by George Barris,

I would love to get a copy of the Hot Rod Magazine (or maybe Car Craft or R&C) this first appeared in. Probably appeared sometime between 1959 and 1965. Anybody know what issue? Thanks,

Dave

That purple stude is one of my favorites. It reminds me of the R&C Dream truck in a way. Anybody have any more pics of this one? Thanks, later plmczy

I loved my '49 (went to Franco, it's Katie's now) Good looking trucks, ugliest and hottest dashboard ever though! The dash IS the firewall! Don't have a pic, but it was hunter green with medium whites, beanies and rings, white tonneau and white bumpers. Uh, just kind of picture it in your head I guess...
