i gotta thank Studeboy for comin out today and givin me a hand in the shop. it helps just to have someone else there workin on SOMETHING. it gets me motivated to work and once i really get into something i don't like to stop. he stripped alot of primer and a little bondo out of this 56 Chevy i'm doing for a customer, while i worked on replacing part of the quarter panel. this car is getting a completly new floor on the interior, new inner and outer rockers, lower quarters (all from CARS inc.)and a few patches here and there. anywho, the following are a few pics from today. hope you like... Mike
i tacked it in with the MIG but i will finish weld it with gas. the round corners (as apposed to square corners) helps prevent warpage. the heat will tend to buid up in the corners. REALLY! i was also trying to keep much of the seem under the trim but it was pretty beat up around the tailight opening so in the rear i used the full height of the replacement panel to eliminate as much bent metal as possible. i did'nt cut it out till it was hammered back out close to it's original possistion. and thats why it's cut out so funny.
back here i removed the factory lead, bondo and rust from the factory seem, then welded it solid and ground it all down smooooth. this part i did with the MIG.
KB, Looking good. I'll bet Donzie is digging it to. Can't get too much practice before you tackle the finish work on the Midland Kustom. Frank
Mike, your metal-working skills never cease to amaze me. Looks awesome! 3 projects going at once?? I don't know how you do it. Keep the photos coming, I for one, enjoy seeing the progress.
actually 4 at once. the Fna, the Donzie custom, resto on this 56 and airbags on a 75 Dodge truck (don't ask why, i don't know). i don't know how i do it either but it works for me. i got into it by having more ambition than time but now that i'm laid off i'm getting things done. if i get sick of one i work on another. i just wish i had more space so i could have em all indoors at once. no new projects for me for a while though. not till these are done. the Dodge will be done in a week then the custom comes inside full time and it'll be back and forth on that and the Chevy (hope to have both done before it gets REAL nice outside). the model A will be the weekend project. i gotta work on mine sometime. i only took on the Dodge cause it's for my best customer. i've done 4 vehicles for him allready. plus i needed the cash. the 56 i have been puting off waaaay too long and needed to get started. Donzie's car will be the most fun (you know, as fun as WORK can be). alot of people can't change gears like that but i don't have a problem with it. i never get burned out like i used to when i did one at a time either. look for more progress on the chop sunday night...
Mike, I thought that was a coffee table under that cover not a 56 Chevy! Nice work as usual but get to work on that super secret roadster.
the super secret roadster has to wait till the FnA is done (and don't bring it up again!!! ). the 58 Olds is my little brother's and it is at my parent's house.
SUPERSECRET ROADSTER??? What did I miss??? It's kinda fun learnin new stuff and I get to get out of the house. Hopefully the Stude will be next in line for rust repair. Eric PS Levis your not the only one that thought that it was a workbench. That is the first time I have seen the cover off in over a year. ========================================== 49 Studebaker P/U
