  2. Id say get other adults invlved -for obvious reasons and organize an annual Bikeshow for the kids..that seems easier to handle and a similar end result.....Sorry we cant give smartass answers here- ......that hurts Tingly.....Ha!

    The first rule of Bike Club is you don't talk about Bike Club.

    The second rule of Bike Club is YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT BIKE CLUB!

    I think "the Dope Pedalers" is really clever, chain gang ain't bad either.

    Me and a bunch of my friends all had scooters for a little while, I wanted to start a club called the Mopediphiles, didn't catch on though. I still want to make T-shirts with writing on the back that says "If you can read this, the basket fell off".

    Bullshit!!! Tingler you don't have a bad attitude. You can't even help being what comes natural to you, a nice guy. When I met you at the Cumberland Run '05 you were the one dude who took the time to make my tourist self feel welcome. Not saying the other folks up there are'nt friendly but you were the approachable one and that's probably what those kids feel.

    This world has gotten so fucked up that we now have problems with someone who'd like to be like a "big brother" to attention starved kids. I know alot about this from my experience coaching youth sports. The idiotic parents go after the principals,teachers, and coaches. The kids know it too and some even know how to manipulate it as well. I was the neighborhood bike fixer- upper as well and when I explained certain basic maintenence steps to the kids most looked at me like I had 3 eyes. It's like what the fuck? what do parents do go to Wal- mart buy Johnnie the bike and send him on his way? I figure you gotta teach the kids when they're young.

    Forget it, I could spend the day here ranting and I gotta go. Just want to say kudos to you Tingler for even thinking about the idea for the kids. I'm sure you could pull it off if you got parental consent. You might even get a dad or mom involved as well helping you with things. Stay kool Tingler.

    Well, I don't know you from Cain, but I sit here at lunch reading this all over again and I gotta think that at least you had the thought initially to try and get involved with the kids and to channel their interests into something constructive. To me that's seems like something a decent guy would do. A real ass bag would have told the kid to beat it. That's a hell of a lot more than most would do. There's a kid lives next to me with his mom, grandma, and great-grandma and he's always hanging around and I try to show him what's the right way to act cuz he doesn't have a man around in his life who's an example of the way we're supposed to act. So if he comes around, I'll talk to him and stuff, try to teach him a little each time and he listens and seems to appreciate it.
    I guess my thing is that kids aren't bad by their nature. They are going to do what they learn and if they learn to take advantage of kindness, well you can damn well bet the farm that they learned that shit at home. I don't wanna get started... I've got a new mold running I gotta go check out.

    Props for what you were considering. The kids don't fuck it up, the parents mess up the kids and the kids just do what they learn.

  9. There was just s huge write-up in Real Detroit magazine about a custom lowrider bike club on the South West side that is all about giving the kids a sense of pride and acomplishment. They have to work to scrounge the money for a bike so they can get in, and then other older guys volunteer to help them work on them. Older guys have lowrider cars. They even do community service if you can believe it. And these ain't no boyscouts either. I don't think that in that neighborhood a lawsuit is the kind of repercussion you have to worry about. :) But it was working out really well for them, so it's good to know that somewhere there's some people that aren't getting screwed for trying to help out.

    Good luck, bro.

    Oh, a monster/bike name? Crankenstiens!

    What really gets me is that I did something nice for this kid.

    .....and what the fuck does he do????

    He thinks I'm his personal bitch now.

    No he thinks your a nice guy. You may not know it but this kid thinks your the best thing since sliced bread. I mean didn't you (when you were younger) always see that guy tinkering with a bike or hot rod and one day stop and talk with him and all of a sudden he was so cool that he became an inspiration to become.....well thats what you were to this kid because he probably didn't have anybody that was into what he was into at home......you were it Man!...His Buddy, NOT BITCH! PLus what were you starting the bike club for? did you expect some sort of praise or because you are a real cool dude like this kid thinks you are.

    quoted by hugh_jass: A real ass bag would have told the kid to beat it.
    shortdog : but isn't this what you did? You say there's a big meth problem around there, You were not only being nice but you were being a friend by keeping this kid off and away from meth. Now he probably thinks you are on meth, the way you switched on him. Don't be offended by all the favors he asks you, if you don't feel like doing it...."Just say no"...A real friend will understand. Not trying to preach Tingler, Just trying to enlighten. Stay cool Man!......And by the way, why not... T.B.C. "THE BIKE CLUB" kinda sorta like "THEM" Car club

  19. I think it's a good idea, Tingler. If you do it, just be sure to invite parents over, regularly, to observe/help. I'm always amazed by people that have the time and patience for kids. Personally, I don't have either. :eek:

    Here's a couple of name ideas...

    * Wheel Imps

    * Wheel Finks

    * Fork Busters

    * Mod Squad

    * Mother Forkers (yeh...I doubt it wold pass, but I thought it sounded good ;))
