Stumptown Street Rods FREE STUFF FOR SCHOOLS !

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tinbender, May 2, 2006.

  1. Seems we're quick to bitch about poor service, and products around here, so I'd like to commend a company that did a cool thing for the school I work at.
I stopped at a booth at the Portland swap meet and bought some very nice panel clamps. As I was buying a set in blue (4 for 20.00) I noticed some bright green ones. The guy told me they were for schools only, and asked if I knew any autobody instructors. Well I just happen to be one! He asked how many sets I'd need for my class. I said two would be cool. He filled a bag with 100 bucks worth, and handed them to me, no charge, along with two cards to give to any other instructors I knew, and said he'd set them up with the same deal. I'm passing one of the cards on to our local high school skills center.
I'd like to pass the other card along, so if there are any other auto body teachers on the board, PM me your address and I'll send it to you. First come first served!

  2. BTTT Maybe I should have added some drama to the title :)

our school could probably use a deal, too bad were out in CA, I dont think he would go for the same deal if he had to ship it. Either way Ill pass the info to our teacher see what he says.

  5. Tinbender, I teach auto tech but that's pretty cool he gave you stuff. I'm always begging for things and know when you get free parts you take it. I'll ask our bodyshop guy and get back to you.

Very cool. It's nice to hear heartwarming stuff like this. Doesn't Bugman teach auto something or another at a school??

I'll PM him this thread in case he doesn't see it himself.

  7. Thanks Denise, now that you mention it I think he does teach high school auto shop.

I used to teach Autobody. Mucho bad experience due to a "disagreement" with administration kinda soured me on Education and caused me to leave the profession, at least for a little while. Tanks for the thought though, and BTTT for any other teachers out there.

  9. Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. I guess I'm lucky. Although our admin is a little wierd sometimes,(we call them the puzzle palace) for the most part they leave us alone and let us do our job.

My old admin did the leave me alone and let me do my thing bit, my new admin did the "WTF are you doing down here, this isn't how you run a classroom" bit(even though it was a SHOP not a chassroom). When your young and not yet tenured, and you dissagree with the Admin, even if it's a new admin, you don't win :(

  11. Very cool.

I wish more people supported education.

Not because I work in education... but because kids need ALTERNATIVES to what public education provides them.

    Hello.....

Stumptown Streetrods would like to thank you all for the kind words here. It truely warms our hearts.
I occasionally do a web-search of our name to find out how we're doing on the web and I saw the H.A.M.B. Post.
I would like to clarify, if I may, what (Tinbender) is referring to.
This is our Tools For Schools Program.
Basicaly we PowderCoat some of our product Flourescent Green and contribute them to Learning Facilities. (No Cost, No Obligation) We PowderCoat them Flourescent Green for two reasons. #1 This makes them Highly Visible so when the students see them, they ask the instructor, what are those and how do they work? (This is a good thing) And #2 we will NEVER Sell any Flourescent Grenn Product, so if you see them in your buddys garage, simply ask where they went to school to learn Sheet Metal, and convince them to Take Them Back, (Next semesters students will need them as well.....
To receive our tools, all we ask is that you either give us a Business Card right then & there that shows that you are an Instructor at an Educational Facility that teaches a course that these will be used in. Or simply send a request for Tools For Schools on SCHOOL LETTERHEAD. Let us know how many students you are teaching, and what you feel it would take to properly instruct them.
We will take care of it from there.....
We do not have a problem with paying for shipping to ANYWHERE on the planet! With funding being cut at a near record pace, this is our way to get in place, what we believe are the right tools for the job.....
If it weren't for teachers and instructors, I wouldn't be able to spell Patch Panel Clamp.

Thank you very much, and please, Keep Up The Great Work.

    Ken

I hope every teacher on the HAMB sees this post and responds to the program. Even if it's not your department, please forward the information to the shop intructors.

Thanks Ken for being there for the kids.

That's awesome. With so many public schools dropping Vo. Tech. funding and classes it's nice to see someone trying to help.
