Um.... is he still alive??? I'm pretty sure he is, but I tend to forget who died year to year. Didn't Spike Milligan die again this year??? I'm doing a story for a magazine and all the stuff I've found on the net seems to be a little dated, can't even find a biography on him anywhere. Thanks.
[ QUOTE ] Who ? [/ QUOTE ] OK, into the HAMB Sin Bin Unkl Ian!! 6 weeks ought to do it. Charlie Ryan... the guy that did Hot Rod Lincoln!!! Son you're gonna drive me to drinkin' Know who I'm talking about now??
Last I heard he was living in the Spokane, Washington area and still has his coupe. Maybe one of the Washington guys can help you out. Nutz.
there were several versions, he was the originator, last i heard he was still in spokane......yes, has the car still, & there are no stupid questions, just stupid people....chip
I see Charlie Ryan a couple times a year, he and his wife come over for some car stuff. Hear him sing "Hot Rod Lincoln" Live will raise the hair on yer arms!!!!!!.........OLDBEET
ALL YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT HOT ROD LINCOLN!!! Thanks Chip. That's what I hoped. It appears there used to be a www.hot-rod-lincoln.com website, but it's no longer working. www.hotrodlincoln.com is a late model Linc, but it's a SALT CAR.
I think he still lives here. He normally pulls the coupe out and brings it one local show every year in town. Other than that, I never see the car anywhere. There is a Charles and a Charlie Ryan listed in the phone book.
Never seen the car off the trailer, its "scarry" old school, but he drove it and got many tickets, his wife tells stories......OLDBEET
I've only seen it parked at the fairgrounds, have every year since I was a little kid. It always has a "hot rod lincoln" sign hanging on the doors and he's always standing right next to it. Funny thing is, it's like people don't even know who he is. I have a friend that was the lead singer of a famous group in the '50s and '60s and I never think of him as famous. Once in awhile I see film of him on one of those infomercials for dowop or oldies cds on T.V. and it's kind of funny. I was at a show last summer and some guy comes up to me with this album and asks me if that's his car. He was all smiles like he was about to meet his hero. I said yeah, but I don't know when he'll be back, except I know he'll come back for dinner. The guy just sat by his car for like 2 hours with this goofy grin on his face.
[ QUOTE ] is this for street machine? and it's not nice to call him stupid [/ QUOTE ] Yep. Sorry... Stupid question, not Stupid Charlie. Apparently the Model A body is on a Lincoln chassis that he shortened a couple of feet. I imagine he had to narrow it as well.
[ QUOTE ] Commander Cody and his lost planet airmen [/ QUOTE ] Nah, that's late model shit. I mean... they swapped out the V12 for a V8??? What were they thinking??? No need to wake Charlie up wayfarer. It's just for a little breakout story that I've done to complement the main feature. I just didn't want to say he's still alive and well if he died the other month. That wouldn't be good...

My record collector friend has about every version of both Hot ROd Race and Hot ROd Lincoln on vinyl 78's and 45's..amazing collection of records its wall to wall vintage vinyl...I grew up listening to both those tunes..The Ryan version is the best hands down,,
Brootal- Here's your link to the (Archived) site: http://web.archive.org/web/20030620213819/http://hot-rod-lincoln.com/ I hate taking no for an answer, so if I find a dead link or a website down, I just copy the address, go to "The WAYBACK Machine" here: http://www.archive.org/ paste in the address, and BROWSE away!! (also has a great film archive)
Hell yeah! I got the "Hot Rod CHarlie Ryan" album from my dad, (it was his when he was a kid!) and that thing RULES!! The whole album is a story... the songs all have mostly the same instrumental as Hot Rod Lincoln, but the lyrics are different. Very Cool!!
One time when the car was in Nashville for a display some one took the then new mag wheels of of the hot rod A Local radio host [WSM 650} Ralph Emory said it was the first time they knew of Mr. Ryan getting upset.Got 12 cyls uses them all got 4 barrel carb and dual exhalst 411 gears that can really get lost. the brakes are good and the tires are fair Damn its been a long time since I thought about that song.
Thanks SlowLearner, you're a legend. I didn't even know that site existed. Looks like some of the pics of the car have gone missing though. Oh well... Phil - Yeah, that's it... "journo speak", I'm just waiting for my good friend Carps to start calling me a "muttering scribbler".
