Quick thinkin' Dude. I'm wanting to open a grocery store in Green Bay,
Wisconsin and I'd like you to manage the produce department. Ha Ha Ha

  5. Know anyone over the age of say.. 3, that is still using their pants for a toilet? But on the other hand most people don't wear a watch on their dick, so...

Yeah, there are stupid questions. When I post a car for sale that runs and drives and someone asks me if they can buy some stupid part or other off the car... and I say in the description I will not part the car out... that's a stupid question. When you ask me some other question that's already, obviously answered in the ad... that's a stupid question.

I've seen more than my share of stupid questions; enough to know some people shouldn't be allowed to own a computer, let alone leave their house.

Ok you're gonna have to help me out with that one. I got out my little Orphan Annie decoder ring to try and figure out what the hell you are saying. It told me to drink my Ovaltine.

On the contrary, a very wise lady, my grandmother, once said, "the only stupid questions are the ones that are never asked."

A guy asked the kid in the produce department for a half-head of lettuce. He told him they didn't sell lettuce by the haf-head. Guy told him to check with his boss. Kid went in the back and told the store owner there was some asshole out there that wanted a half-head of lettuce. The kid then saw the guy standing right behind him, so he said, "And this gentleman would like to buy the other half."

So the guy bought the half-head of lettuce and left. The store owner told the kid he was a pretty quick thinker and he'd like him to manage the new store in Green Bay.

The kid said, "Green Bay! I don't wanna live in Green Bay, there's nothing there but whores and football players."

Store owner says, "I'll have you know my wife's from Green Bay!"

Kid says, "No shit.......what position does she play?"

It's an oldie. Thought you'd heard it.
I'm off to see Delbert McClinton live at the Bijou. Enjoy your Ovaltine.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions about stuff that you dont know the answer to. thats how you learn. Sometimes it really sucks putting up with the "Know it All Shit heads" around here.

...maybe next go around he can add the apostrophes...:p (just kidding!)

I don't mind the know-it-alls, it's the asinine know-it-alls that piss me off, the ones that can't be satisfied with giving you an answer, they have to subtly, or not so subtly, make fun of you for not knowing something and being naive enough to believe it's okay to ask the question.

The comeuppance is pretty cool though, same know-it-alls accidentally comment on something that I know tons about, and I get to correct them.:D You know what's better than that? Being nice to them about it. Why is that better? Because I'm not a dickhead like they are.

I'm willing to bet that if you were buying a car from Poland, and Polish wasn't your first language, that somewhere on the Polish HAMB some guy would be saying that this American guy sure asked him a lot of stupid questions.

Not understanding our system doesn't make your buyer stupid. Not tolerating differences, especially since the guy bought your car, kind of makes you look that way.

i can write one hell of a paper on chinese torture methods (i'm a history teacher), but i dont know shit about shoe horning an impala dash into an 54 f100. that's why i keep asking for advice/help from a fellow on the hamb. i feel weird about asking for help, but i cant figure out how else im going to learn how to do it. socrates was considered the wisest man of his day because he admitted that he did not know everything, and therefore kept searching for the answers and seeking the truth. i wonder if he asked any stupid questions? i wonder if he asked what was in his drink?
anyhow, thanks to all of the great dudes and gals on the hamb who have helped me learn stuff about cars.

Stupid isn't about lack of knowledge.

Stupid is when someone who doesn't know something pretends that he does, or better yet just plain lies about it.

Ignorant is when someone who doesn't know something believes what some stupid person told him.

Smart is asking the right people and then verifying their answers.

I thought this site was for sharing information,so for someone to come out and blast a guy in a thread for asking a stupid question....pretty much makes you a dick.

You should have helped the guy instead of calling him a dumb ass.

The learning curve has to start somewhere, unfortunately when they get a responce other than sincere what they learn is there are some that don't have the desire to share their passion that they claim to have. If you truly enjoy something you do then you don't mind sharing. Somewhere along the line you learned your knowledge from someone else, where would you be if they just blew you off?

Asking a stupid question is ok, i do it all the time. Does that make me stupid or smart? You already figured that out. It is only when you try to hide it, when you are less than honest about it, pretend that you knew the answer or argue with the responder.
How many posts have you guys seen that begin with...'My friend has..' or 'My friend wants to..' then you have a problem. How do you give serious consideration and advice to a poser. I suppose there is the odd guy asking on behalf of somebody else but most of them are just afraid that they'll look stupid asking a dumb question. Is it because of the infamous hamb bucket being dumped on them, are they afraid?

nowadays it's; "i read it on the internet"

  26. I'm just a FNG here but I know from reading the posts in this thread that most of you guys are all right, a little rough around the edges, but ALL RIGHT. I guess that's why I'm here.

I'm gonna be 50 in January and I'm already at the point in my life where I just don't give a shit anymore whether some "know it all" thinks my question is stupid. I ask questions and I'm grateful for a knowlegeable answer without any attitude.

If someone asks me something I'm happy to share what knowledge I have. If I'm not sure about my answer or if I don't know the answer, I say so.

Loburban, you seem kind of assholish to me with the way you started this thread, but maybe you were just having a bad day.

I've only been here a few days but the first thing I did was ask a question that may have seemed stupid to the guys that were knowledgeable enough to answer it. I asked how to de-chrome a set of aluminum vette valve covers. I got lots of answers and two offers to do it for me at a minimum price. I've only been here a few days but like I said...you guys are all right. Thanks.

We are all ignorant, but stupid should be taxed.:D

  29. Thats not such a dumb question I guess. Last spring I was buying header gaskets at the local auto parts and the fella asked me if I had round or square ports.

I told him rectangular. That really confused him. Then he just pointed me to the place where they were hanging and let me pic my own.

  30. You notice this guy posted this and created a shit storm that has went on for 7 pages (so far) and he ain't said shit ever since. I think he did that just to stir the shit and he accomplished exactly that. I think that goes on a lot around here.
