Just thought of this (maybe its been done a million times before...?)
Need to center a hole in a piece of stock? Dowel jig and center punch might save some time? Haven't tried this yet but it should work??

  3. OK color me dumb.

I don't get it why not just measure it and mark the hole then center punch it?

Fixtures are for mass producing parts aren't they? :D

  5. I am ashamed to admit this but I got som stupid mechanic tech for everyone.

Don't use fence pliers to pull a wire tie tight. that little pointy hooky thing on there is dangerous.

6 stitches and ten days and the scar isn't even cool. Aside from the fact that everyone in the E-room kept asking if I needed them to call the police or wanted information on battered spouses. Yes my lady is Native American that just makes her a good woman not a husband stabber. :D

You don't need my help for that [emoji12]

If he was doing a lot of holes, I see why, and I even do it my self. For instance if I was drilling flat stock for something and wanted racing holes that would be perfect.
But for one hole, come on. Measure, punch it and drill baby, drill.

But it's not a bad Ideer.

The board or the metal usually slips while I get the drill. It was right when I measured it.;)

  9. I should probably mention that I am not slighting the tech, fixtures are good I am just not understanding it.

  11. LOL I am not seeing any instructions just a vice with a dowel pin sticking up through a piece of stock.

But that doesn't mean much I am not feeling imaginative enough today to figure the simple stuff out.

I fortunately have sensory problems so it didn't hurt but I can remember looking down and thinking, "Well that may not have been a good idea." I am not sure why there were even fence pliers there. They were just on the floor where I happened to be sitting, in front of the tool box.

Funny thing, the wife hadn't been home 5 minutes. I said, "Honey I hurted myself." She just said, "OK I'll go start the truck" She never even looked to see how bad it was.

Porknbeaner and others who don't heal up the way you used to. Take vitamin C every day, 250Mg or more. I started taking it when I was 32 and in 3 weeks was healing up as fast as when I was a teenager.

Eating more fresh fruit and vegetables is good too maybe even better.

I think I hit the center without a fixture. Now for the healing thing.

I had 20-15 vision 'til I was 40. Caught a chip of aluminum in my left eye, went right around the side barrier of my safety glasses. Damned near lost the eye, but the black patch paved the way for lots of chick conversation...Ladies love outlaws...and pirates.

Centering the 'prick punch' on round headed rivets was now impossible.
I made a quick tool out of a 1958 VW throttle return (compression) spring and the related sleeve that covers it. A long shank 3/8" drift with a 'transfer punch' point inserted thru the spring (with the sleeve fitted onto the rivet) centered itself dead nuts.
    'Bing'! Absolute dead center.
Any way you shake it, absolute center in a circle is risky by eye...

Sounds like a great idea that I could really use.

Unfortunately, I don't know what a, "1958 VW throttle return (compression) spring and the related sleeve that covers it" looks like.

    A picture sure would help.

Can't seem to figure out how to delete my own posts in the HAMB app. Please ignore this post. Seriously, there is nothing of interest here. Stop reading! Look at the next post. That guy has something really interesting to say. I'm really only still typing because I'm stuck on the "throne." I cant believe you're still reading.

  20. That's rough. Makes me cringe just to look at it. I may have felt that.

its for pulling staples. The damned thing was gapped open about 3/8 inch and the bine was still a nice off white. LOL

    @Rusty O'Toole

Thanks for the heads up in the healing thing. I knew that there was something I should be taking but couldn't remember what it was. Anyone got any ideas on memory vitamins?

I must confess, I didn't feel a thing. It's actually just makeup. I do horror makeup effects on the side, and just ran into this picture the other day. With the whole hole centering thing, I couldn't pass it up.

    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1431724180.567609.jpg

And isotope confess, I see no need to own such a tool, except selftorture and regret. Maybe, just maybe if you work at Guantanamo.

For what purpose did you buy it?

I like the tool that started this thread more now.

Only hill billys with no real tool box invented that. I have nothing against hill
billy's, but that's just plain laisy (sp?)

VW Beetles had a throttle cable that ran to the back of the car, through the engine shroud, and attached to the carburetor.

They had a throttle return spring between the shroud and carb. It had a cover like a piece of steel tube with the end rounded off and it worked in compression.

I have a pair with red handles. Much safer. Only thing I've used them for is a hammer. They pull staples, cut wire, hammer staples and nails, and pinch fingers.
Those were invented before Mr Grip invented his Vicegrips. Ranchers used them when they were home on the range and didn't have many pockets or a Swiss Army knife.

I don't know about memory vitamins except, cut out booze and tobacco and don't eat junk food. Eat all the fresh fruit and vegetables you can hold and get a juicer. Vitamin E is said to promote healing but I think vitamin c is more essential. It not only helps healing but keeps off colds and fights infections.

In addition to vitamin C I take Sam E for depression also vitamin B6 B12 and folic acid. B3 is good too, especially for schizophrenia. All these are good brain vitamins and help improve your mood.

Cutting out wheat, bread, and all wheat products improves brain function.

Sam E is the only thing that rebuilds worn joints. My back and knees bothered me for years, 3 weeks after I started taking Sam E they stopped hurting and have not bothered me since. Sam E also cures liver disease.
