i started clipping my Pontiac, got everything mostly done and i went to re check the squaring on the frame, b4 i started cutting anything i checked the measurements on X and wheelbase, the wheel base is 120" when i measure it on x for squaring it gave me from the rear driver side tire to the front hub 136.75 and from the p*** side rear hub to the driver side front hub 135.5, when i moved the who spindle on the front p*** side i saw that is was all lose so i thought that was why the measurements was difference so i cut it. the car shifted a few times since we cut it so we made new marks so now after we cut the front end after we mark the wheelbase at 120" on both sides, after that we went and did the measurements on X again an from the p*** side rear hub to the front 120 mark is dead on but from the rear driver side hub to the p*** side 120 mark its of by 3/4" what can i do to fix this here is drawing of the frame wit the measurements. thanks in advance

Take some basic measurements at points on the frame. 'X' from left front to right rear, at factory holes. (they were drilled there for body shops to check for 'diamond-shape' after accidents) When satisfied the frame is 'square' (rectangular, actually) now measure the rear axle for lateral (side-to-side center) and diagonal. (spring center bolts broken, very worn shackle bushings, brackets bent, or frame bent from rear end trauma on one side) You will find the error.
When you do, take time to set everything up in a sort of temporary jig. This can be some diagonals of inexpensive 3/4" black pipe from the plumbing supply. Cheap, welds good, and is very strong 'til the whole subframe is securely tacked, checked, then welded.

What clip are you using? Some GM cars had the front tires oddly displaced from each with a different wheelbase on either side.

Looks to me like you need to take some measurements on your frame, not your hubs. If they check out right you can go to your axle and suspension.

A parallelogram would have measurements as you describe.

Wheel length measurements are best when taken from the lower front ball joint grease ****** to the rear axle control arm front mounting bolt centerline or the rear leaf spring front mounting bolt centerline . If the rear frame section has reference holes near these points they can also be used. Do not measure from the center of the spindle to the rear axle shaft center. Check your cross measurements from these same reference points.

  12. Yes, you must find reference points on the frame. If you get it within 1" you should be good to go with a wheel alignment when your on the road.

measure from the upper shock holes. measuring from the hub is a no go due to differences in alignment, and control arms. (think about every time You bump a car-stop at the grocery store. now multiply that by 30 or so years. )
