some of it comes right off-scraper works but is alot of work on the entire underside of the car- this thing has 40+ yrs of ALAMABA red clay and tar- got any suggestions for removing about 1/2 inch thich of baked on tar/mud?
Lots of friends with scrapers and then a power washer. Are you sure some of that ain't under coating?
ya could soak it w/WD40 or diesel fuel then try to scrape it off or carefully use an air chisel on it...joe
100 dollars woth of car washing and 100 dollars worth of sand blasting sand....thats two hundred-right???seems cheap.
I use a SnapOn air operated gasket scraper. you can do a whole car in about 6 hours. Works best on tar when it's frozen.
Wire cup in an angle grinder has worked well for me in the past....just watch out for small rocks and stuff.
I chiseled huge chunks of hardened road goo off my 47's chassis with a big chisel thing I got from Eastwood. It looks like a putty knife at first glance, but it's real thick and REALLY hard. Works good for undercoating too.
Thanks for the suggestions- I wish it was undercoating- I could just use a heatgun with the scraper attachment- I am not sure which method I will try- I will let you know the results
We use a citric- based cleaner from Crown Chemical to clean asphalt off aluminum dump bodies and wheels. Safty-Clean has kind of the same stuff. They both run about $20.00 a gallon.
Just start scrapin! Don't try to sandblast until the hard tar/mud is off tho, cuz it wont do anything, I learned this when doin my '46. It doesn't take long to scrape it down, then just blast it. Mike
