Put a toneau cover over the cockpit with a hole big enough for your head and helmet, head for El mirage and post some pictures of it kicking up a rooster tail of dust at about a buck and a quarter. Fair enough?:)

  4. You troubled kids today... you should be asking for a whole bunch of photos of Sir Robert Laird Borden. :D

fair enough for me Frank! :D

decker....i'll take it however you've got it

  6. I'm married... hence I have nothing :D I also have a sub-two year old... which means I haven't a lot of "free time".

So... here's the next question for you young man... when are we going to see you hammer out your own body. From what I've seen I wouldn't put it past you to be able to do it. Is the world ready for the first "complete" SUHR roadster??? You certainly have an eye for classic body lines... why just stop at the cowl???

Here's a little "inspiration" for you... maybe? Talbot's have always had the coolest lines from my perspective... especially the racers.

    .....I've been thinking about it....
i made so much on this car....from the frame to all this aluminum stuff it seems like i should have just done it?
actually a few times during the build of this car ive thought about just building the rest of the body and selling this one
but i have a hard time thinking i can improve the lines of a 28 roadster and i have so much time in it already that im getting burnt out with it as my only project doing the body would only add that much more to the length (1 bay garage)

it was a bit of a waste to start with a complete brookville body though and gut it
my actual though is to try to copy a 27T roadster in aluminum just to see if i can do it

i have a few other projects in line though before i dig into that.....
kinda got the itch for a 40's custom ontop of other things

Looks great Zach! One of the coolest roadsters.....of any era.
Some 18" wheels would look bitchin' on the back.......

Will you be adding any "fake" patina to acheive the "pulled outta the barn" look? Just curious......:)

Well, you almost built my dream vision of a t roadster...

Now you will complete the dream! This is fantastic work and really is just spot on, congrats.

  11. Look into Audi "Nimbus Gray/Grey" it's almost looks flat black...that was the next color choice for my old bike. On a classic car... perfect. The color has a pearl effect and using a no/low sheen clear... it'd be bitchin'

    Looks great so far Zach!

  15. I think we will be seeing much more about this car. You have the line and the metal work is outstanding!

im thinking just single coating of gloss black....remember its 1949;)

as for lights...probably just cheap little sealed beams
i dont want them to be a focus of the car....just a "it has to have headlights"
    39 taillights then
im not realy into lights...i think they detract from the lines so i just want to keep them as generic as possible

Gotta make sure you resist the urge to get the paint too perfect. Materials have come a long way since 1949. ;)

dont worry....i think i have a plan

  19. Zach, how about fitting some era correct wing mount landing lights?
    The Lenses and bezels anyway.
They'd fit right into those nifty nacels at the front.

you going to run cast ally air intakes for the front brakes?

    keen bro.

it will probably be way over kill, but look at the headlights on a D'arl mat Peugot or a Silverstone Healy, but mount them down low behind the grill, give it a late 40's endurace race feel.

I'm just glad you are going to paint it. It would be a shame to cover up all of that beautiful work with rust / fake "patina".

Dang, just the right blend of....everything. Just enough A still shines through, and of course the nose is great. All the handcrafted details, I like this car a lot! Not to underplay everything done here, but the stance nails the whole deal, perfect.

Love the car and I'm comforted by the "organization" of your workbench...........Looks just like mine. Hope to see the car in person some day, just a killer look!!

  25. I've always liked this car, somehow I missed the dash. Awesome.

  26. Well Zach, I ain't going to dig through your cave to find out what else is in there! :D

I agree with Mr. G though, seeing is believing. I saw it a couple months back and it looked even more amazing in the flesh.

  27. Zach,

I'd love to see what you would do to redesign the Edsel Model 40 front end...

Personally, I would use a '35 grille and give it a Miller-Ford look.

Whitey Clayton would be proud Zach...

    thanks everyone
let me try to reply in order here

im not sure about wing lights...i kinda just want generic lights and thats it...
im trying to get everything i can out of the air stream....and not have anything specific to the car that isnt "race car" looking

the brake scoops are a defonite thought...i actually made one a while back, hammered out of aluminum but im not sure if I will make a pair or not....

my bench is messy, probably should have tidied it up a bit before taking a picture....can you tell i just showed everything back to work on the dash :)

I'd sure like to have a go on that Edsel speedster...i think i like the original design better then the one now....its out of my price range to start cutting it up though :D

larry, those cushions would look nice!....i may try to make something similar
my girlfriend is going to make me the base cushions that conform to the seats

    Zach
