    Hi!

I've been digging through a big load of threads without hitting any info about making suicide springleaf mounts on the stock nonsplit wishbones. If anyone would have any info, or pics I could use it would be very much appreciated...

    Thanks!!

I realize that it is not the most usual combination as it limits the engine choice because of the mid mount wishbone and also because the wishbone probably will hit the frame too in some cases...

In my case I'm not that worried about the clearance etc.

Well, yes thanks. Basically you are correct but that is not my cup of tea since. The thing is that in this case I'm building a 3/4 scale Volksrod by using a narrowed Ford Anglia/Popular frontaxle assembly.

It will be dropped just like titus did in the Tech Archive too.

I'm building this for my son to have some fun with, and also to get familiar with the suspenion tech before I start with the -36 PU resto...

Edit: Forgot to update my profile... It's been 4 years since I joined.. Sorry..

  4. Pretty awesome TECH, don't you agree?
You may have a hard time finding another setup like you are looking for. If you can scan a good sketch with lots of dimensions, I could try to draw something up for you with AutoCad.

Well...it seems like the only real concerns, beyond the usual concerns that is, would be to make sure the holes for the relocated perch bolts (IF you do it that way...) are located parallel to the axle and that the spring is the right length to locate the shackles correctly. You MIGHT need to narrow it a little...

Other than that it seems like a thing you'll just have to play with to get right as you build it!
The fact its from a Pop really trims down the number of people who may have done it already.
Model A measures etc are no good to your buildup.

If you can build a jig to drop an axle this should be a piece of cake!!! ;) :D

Thanks for your replies so far! :) I dont acctually need measurement, just ideas on how to apply the tech to the Pop axle. I will need to shorten the springleaf etc..

Thanks Butch27 for your kind props too.. :D I'm not sure I dare to post any pics on the project this axle is going into anyways without getting bashed? ;) :(

  17. That's all very well - but where the hell are you going to find a Flat Three to power it?

To continue this thread I want to ask how I remove the hubcover and brakedrums on these axles? I just dont want to brake anything...

    Just a thougt.
Why dont you mount the spring i the same place, But on the underside of the wishbone.
It would lower it quite a lot.

The 37-39 Ford have two types of hubcovers if i remember right. One is shaped like a nut in the end, and unscrewes.
The other one you remove like a VW with a screw river and a small hammer. I guess your axle is similar.

The brake drum will probably fall of if you press out the wheel mounting bolts, Could be a rivet or two to drill out also.

Psst: I have a VW also, but dont tell anyone here ;-))

Ok. The one I have does have the nut shaped cover. I suspect that the drums on this axle are similar to VW's in other words I unscrew the bearing nut and pull the drum complete with bearings and all?

    I promise, I won't tell anyone. :)

Looks good. You could probably lose a leaf or three out of that spring pack.

The springleaves are placed straight above the I-beam. I first concidered to put it behind and below the wishbones but then realized that then there wouldn't have beenn any room for the steeringrods that way. I also want to keep the number of leaves I have left just for looks. ;) Allready removed 5 leaves... :D
