Do any of you hambers out there know of any good kits or have you made your own? I am looking for some pics for reference if nothing else to fabricate my rear doors on my falcon to swinge suicide...I've seen the doors done before but not pretty. any help, guidance, or pics would be helpful. This goal might be more trouble than its worth but I thought I'd give it a shot
Have you tried http://www.haganstreetrods.com/ or http://www.rockyhinge.com/index.html Good, but not cheap.
Definitely is. Just move the rear door handles to the front of the door so it LOOKS like the they are suicided, like they LOOK on a Lincoln... Look at a '61-on Lincoln Continental. See how the rear door rear jamb is full height in front of the rear wheel well? That allows the hinges to be spaced out wide enough to functionally hold up the weight of the door, for more than three weeks. Your Falcon has most of the rear of the door cut into the wheel opening and there's not enough "edge" to put two hinges spread apart and in the jamb and hold the door up. For more than three weeks, or the first time an orcabetty leans on it when it's open, that is.
Like DrJ said, the spacing for the hinges would be too close to work well. Even if it could work, its a very labor intensive job to pull off properly, and will only be noticed when you open the rear doors, which is not often. Lots of work for something most will never see. Botched suicide door conversions are the #2 car killer in the world, only surp***ed by #1: top chops gone bad.............
