Whenever you bring up a new event there's always a concern about what other events are going on- so what are a couple good dates for AZ in mid to late summer of '09 that would not be in major conflict with any of the other big events? Thanks Jim
Indoors and outdoors- late summer. Any ideas? thanks Jim What's a good source of nation wide event schedule? Don't want to conflict with: HAMB Drags Bonneville GG Scottsdale Hot Rod Reunions Detroit Any others I'm not thinking of in the late summer?, Maybe after summer? When does it cool off?
http://www.cruisinarizona.com/carshows.html this year's listing, just turn your sound down before the page loads. The only big thing I see is the Run to the Pines, a popular show. are you thinking in the PHX metro area? or out of town?
The Arizona Coliseum would be a great place. Sure it's ghetto most of the time, and yeah, there is the "UNWED MOTHER'S NIGHT" at the State Fair. Don't forget the "Regular admission, your Rotty gets in half price" night too. But despite the urban BS that has befallen The fair grounds, it is STILL a nice place when given the right circumstances. Lots of old trees, a sky ride, barns and the undergrandstand vendors, a circle track, damn, there needs to be some sort of event there. Anytime I've ever brought this up, it gets shot down, "ewwww that's the ghetto", type of things..... Anyway, that's MY vote. Anytime time of year, although NOT in the MIDDLE of SUMMER would be ideal. Plus the coliseum building itself is super cool with lots of history, WELL, for PHOENIX, anyway. Breathe some new life in a great ARIZONA landmark. That, or in the parking lot at the mall. hahhahaaaaa
I doubt you would be in conflict with other events, even the Devil does not want to be outside in Phoenix from June thru August, that's one reason the cruise night's this time of year are really sparse. We are supposed to hit 109 today,it was already 100 at 11 AM no fun being out in that!
Prescott?! That's a different story. Summer is not too awful miserable up there. I could see it in and ON the town square and along whiskey row. That would be pretty damn cool. They have a show and swap at Watson(?) lake just outside of Prescott every year about this time, but IN the city would be really neat. I still think there needs to be a BIG event at the fairgrounds in Phoenix though. GG's Scottsdale gig would be so much better there instead of in the dirt bowl polo field.....
And the serious thunderstorm that hit around 2 o'clock shut that event down! It was horrible, especially with a table full of swap parts! Boy the skies just opened up. Prescott is a cool old town though, good environment for a rod gathering.
Arizona Street Rods used to do the high country run around that time. i haven't heard anything about it lately. I don't think that you will be conflicting with anything then. Anyway we can help let us know, Sinners AZ jerry
I've been to that show! Havn't you? There already is a show at Prescott square, along whiskey row and it happens in mid September . . . but i just checked the AZ Street Rod Ass. site and its been cancelled! http://www.azstreetrods.com/news.htm The location is ideal, but the entry fee for a car was more than a goodguise show, if I recall! But it was free to public.
Spring and fall there's something going on every weekend, sometimes 2 or more at once. In the summer it's hot in the lower elevations, and either hot or raining at the higher ones.
I've attended it for years, won their last give away motor in 98. Sad to hear that it's been canceled. Think the artsy fartsy gallery owner on the other side had anything to do with the decision? The whiskey row owners side of the courthouse are far more receptive. And lots of bars to get in out of the rain! jerry

BRING IT ON. Arizona needs more car events. Especially good swap meets. I am all for it. If I can help in anyway, let me know.
