My '55 F100 burned up the Mallory fuel pump Sunday. (no fire, just an electrical failure)

Not far from home, so I nursed it here with a tank from a ride-along mower, gravity fed to the Holley.

I had it jacked up Monday, installed an old 'test pump', the little Carter 3 PSI I use on my test stand.
It worked, but not well at sustained full throttle...

Last night, I decided to get a good Carter Hi-Perf series for it. At 5:45 P.M., I ordered the pump online from Summit.
I live in Atwater, right in the Armpit Central of Cali.
Mail's always late here, parts are never the same as ordered. It's just the way the moment is structured.

Welding this morning, 11:30 A.M. Dogs start barking, I come in, look outside. Big Brown truck is leaving, there is a Summit box on the front porch!
17 hours. Order to in-hand. Ground shipping, NO 1-or-2 day rush. I was 'startled'.

I love it when a plan comes together... F100 back on the air!

  2. Let me know when you get her lit...

  3. Yep!

I accept parts for a buddy in Canada.

He called me at 6:05pm on Friday to tell me he had placed an order with Summit.

I emailed him about 11:30am on Saturday to tell him the order was here.

    Now that's service!!!

  4. Amazing how some company's wait a couple of days to finally ship your parts even if you order them early and taking more than a week to get to you is inexcusable ,,case in point ,I ordered some parts for the wagon on Monday morning from a company in Charlotte,N.C. to my home address in Anderson,S.C. and I finally received them Wednesday the next week,,,no Holidays just terrible service.

    That's 10 days!

I recently ordered a fan for my sedan from Summit on a Monday morning and couldn't believe I received it the very next day,,, Tuesday afternoon.:)

Summit has got their act together. HRP

We are really lucky here in Ohio, some times Summit orders arrive before we place the order!

Summit is my go-to for parts. Not only is the shipping fast, the customer service is awesome.

  8. same experiance here with summit. fast service good prices....the one that still amazes me is, i order 4 tires from coker one time. i was in no hurry. i ordered them a 4pm. they were on my porch the next day at 1pm.

This right here is something we don't do enough. Comment and compliment good service. We've had great service from Summit and Rock Auto.
All we mostly do is bitch about bad service. I got to where I tell people in stores or vendors at swap meets when I think they are doing a good job.
Hell I even tell women when I think they look great. My wife doesn't mind and believe it or not they love it. Maybe it's my age. They don't think I am hitting on them.
Tell people when they do the job they are supposed to do that they are doing it well.

Summit has EARNED my business for the last 25 years, every time I order some odd ball Pontiac speed part, I am amazed that not only do they stock it, but it gets to me correct and on time.

There is no such thing as a speed shop within 500 miles of here so if it were not for Summit me and my little hot rod would be shit out of luck.

I agree with you. Its as important to praise as it is to point out failure

  12. I posted this on another thread but I figured the die hard Summit fans may be interested as well.

Got to agree on this as well, and try to praise when praise is due.I am fortunate that Summit is only 30 miles from me,it is actually cheaper for me to order online and bingo it is here the next day. Also there return policy is excellant and have never had any issues.

  14. i agree as long as i order before noon i have the part the next day. i love summit.

Used to order everything from Jegs but that has all changed.
Jegs has disappointed me on the last two orders and Summit kicks ass.

Jegs also closed the I270 location on the west side of Columbus. I used to drive there `cause the counter guys were friendly and very knowledgeable.
Not the same on 11th ave location. Just not as laid back & accommodating it seems.

  16. Ordered an oil pump for my flathead and got 2 day delivery to Texas.....and they threw in a free ball cap.

I agree on how Summit does a great job in all respects. They ship our stuff from their Georgia warehouse so we get it in a day or two. Always packed well and never have had the wrong item shipped to us or any issues at all.

I don't order much from Jegs as I just get a little different vibe from them, not that they are not good, just not as warm and fuzzy, if you know what I mean.

Summit has also stepped up to the plate for us when one of their suppliers wouldn't because some thing was past warranty. This is just what we were talking about on that tire thread.............Summit is a model that a lot of small businesses could learn from.

I order stuff from Summit & Speedway and usually get it in a day. I've ordered from a company in Az. for rebuilding my truck. usually took 2 to 3 weeks to get parts. Found out why, they have their logo stickers over the top of other companies, so I guess they have to collect all your order before they can ship it.

  20. Summit is good and I also get the same excellant service from Speedway

  21. Same here!

I tried to deal with Jegs. I like the idea of dealing with a small(er) family business and have met Jeggy and Sr. several times and the whole family are very personable.

But when it comes to buying from them, they just don't care what the other guy is selling something for. In fact, when I told them one time what a competitor was selling an item for they simply said "yeah well". When I asked if Jegs would meet or beat that price I got a resounding "NO"!

I've been dealing with Summit ever since that particular encounter.

Like Don said, you just don't get that "warm and fuzzy" feeling with Jegs.

I'm surprised to see all the positive comments...what I've found is the more 'hard core' a hotrodder deems himself, the more likely he is to bash Summit for being 'the big box store'.

I think they do a great job and they get most of my business.

  24. It doesn't matter how "hardcore" you claim you are.

In this day & age, saving a buck and getting treated with some respect is what really matters. Summit fits that bill.

  25. Its been that way since they were only in Ohio for me. Longest I have ever waited was 4 days on a part that they didn't stock or sell that they got for me.

Remember the UPS Strike? I ordered a pair of heads @ 4:00 in the evening. They were at my door here in KC @ 9:00 AM the following morning, parcel post. Who knows how they pulled that off.

Pretty cool you got your stuff quick and probably all the way from reno (or sparks)

I had a similarly positive with RockAuto. Ordered a Spectra fuel tank super cheap from them and went with $13 slow boat shipping on a Thursday at 5p. Almost broke my foot tripping over it on my way out to get the paper Saturday morning.

  28. Next time I'm racin' at Norwalk or Columbus I'll have to stop by and check out the Summit store.

I started out buying from Jegs and figured I'd try Summit once and never went back. They've made a couple mistakes on parts or sent me a bad one but always took care of it fast and didn't even want the wrong ones back. Next day sevice to upstate NY is pretty cool too plus if the one you talk to on the phone doesn't know 100% about whatever, they'll glady offer to transfer you to somebody else that does know.

Yes, Summit and Speedway are fast, love to use 'em. This discussion reminds me of my first "hotrod" a'55 Chev. now I think this predates Summit and Jegs and all the rest. I had J.C.Whitney! Only took them 6-8 weeks to get me parts, ah for the good ol' days! Normal Norman
