I did enjoy hearing a similar story where the windshield washer bottle pulsed, delivered fuel, to coax the engine home. Clever people these HAMB-ers.
While there customer service/shipping is outstanding, there response to problems is the best I have ever seen. I recently had a problem with a carburetor and they shipped me a new one before I could even get the defective carb. ready for a return. I did take the time to write to them to tell them how much I appreciated the service and have used them as an example in our business as to how we should do things. I really do admire them!
I get Summit orders fast, but it seems Oregon is out of the loop. I've never gotten them quicker than 3 days.
I've ordered thousands of $$ from Summit and Jegs.... they must have some kind of delivery competition between the 2 as they both deliver ASAP... only one or two issues, which were "handled"... these are both well run companies!! Tom
Summits "perks" are not bad either. The speed points are pretty cool, and they emailed me two free tickets to the ADRL event in Norwalk last weekend.
Summit started out in the trunk of a car believe it or not. I don't remember the foounders name but as I recall the story he started out bringing Holley carbs to Ohio from a speed shop/engine builder in Wisc or the like and selling to his buddies. Its a pretty neat story.
Summit even sent me a brand new set of aluminum heads and trusted me to return the first set. I had ordered some Edelbrock E Street heads and that night I got to thinking I hadn't seen where they were recommended for a roller cam motor (which I have), so I called Edelbrock to ask and they said the Performer RPM heads would be better for that application. I called Summit and they said " No problem, we will ship the Performers today and just bill you the difference. Refuse the other ones when the driver shows up." Those were a $1000 worth of heads and them trusting me told me they cared about me as a customer. They did the same thing when TCI transmissions would not cover any shipping on a transmission that failed because of their convertor disintegrating internally. Summit kicked in a $75 gift certificate to help pay some of the freight, even though they didn't have to. So what do they gain out of doing business the way they do ?.........look at all the good word of mouth advertising they are getting here and how loyal most of us are to them. Don
I miss ordered pistons for a small journal motor I was building for a friend. I called them and they shipped the next over size right out. It was pistons that they had odered from TRW for me and when they ordered them they also ordered the next oversize incase I ran into a problem with the over bore. They didn't wait for the return just trusted me to do it. I think part of that comes from a relationship, many years of doing business with them.
