mustang tanks are the way to go for sure, its like half of your trunk floor done for you:)

as for the 390, if it is already built, get an adapter and roll with a chevy auto, as for the 4 speed you will need to drill the back of your crank for a pilot bushing and getting whole flywheel bellhousing combo together can be a pain and pricey.

that said let it be know I prefer a manual so I am not being one of those dudes:)

as for the quarters, what about a set of 56 merc? maybe some 58 or 59 lincoln canted quads ub front? :)

either way 53/4 hardtops are some seriously sexy stuff and you dudes definitely have done much justice to everything I have seen ya'll build thus far!

look forward to seeing it come together!

mmm, just think about those lincolns on the front with a light pearl blue paint job with kandy blue fogging :)

August was a slow go on the ford. The pace has picked up now, we'll see if we can stick to deadlines. Fortunately the delays are related to other projects which keep us in the black, or more a shade of black with a smear of red. Will post some sheetmetal repairs and hopefully have the body back on the frame in the next two weeks.

No great news to update this post other than the shop has been very busy, so the project had to take a back seat. The rent is sometimes much cooler than the Ford :)

We'll be back on track this month and will recalibrate our finish date.

When we were cutting out all the rust in the "Ranch Wagon" 8 years ago we were faced with trying to find quarters,,everything we found was as bad as what we already had.

The solution was to make our own, which is kinda common when dealing with the 52-54's as the aftermarket sheet metal manufactures have only
started making a selection of the much needed pieces in recent years.

Check out my photo album and it might give you some idea of how we accomplished the task. HRP

Not sure if you have been there or not, but the 52-56 Ford Owner's Social Group is a great resource and I know that there is a '54 being parted out over there. Might have what you need in good condition.

FINALY! back working on the 54 ford, iv got about two more floor braces/body mounts to make and a few more floor patches to weld up and we can finaly get it back on its frame to get the motor and tarns mounted. The shop has been pretty busy so we had to put the car aside for a while and we are def not making our deadline of detroit :(. But we are chipping away at it as best as we can, once i get the structural stuff situated we may have Flop ( owner of Flop custom, and a good friend of mine) come back down to help us out with some of the cosmetic metal work so we can get it done a little faster. who knows maybe wel shoot for driving it to the Round up! il be sure to get some more pics up tonight when i leave the shop.

Cool thread. What gauge of metal did you use for your floor braces?

Got some more of the patch work done today. as you can see by these few pics from the pinch weld about 4 inchs up was all dented and swiss cheesy and just not great to work with. so that was removed and a new patch was made. tryed my hardest to get some crown into the panel but was difficult without a slip roll handy. As you can see form the pic with the straight edge the area was pretty denty ( or aldente as john and myself call it) so i spent a little time with the stud guna and hammer and dollies to try to get it as straighted out as i could befor attaching my patch.

After straightening the dents out as best i could i fit the panel and got it welded on there. tomorrow il be able to attache the patchs i made for the inner wheel house to the patch i did today and it should be just as strong as when it was new. the plan is to do all the structural underneath first so we can get the body back on the frame. then im going to mount the motor and trans and all that jazz then pull the body back off and finish underneath and the reast of the metal work.
