There was a recent HAMB thread about the failure of Chinese steering columns. I'd find out where those Summit columns are made. I learned a long time ago that when it comes to brakes, steering and cooling always buy the best. You won't be disappointed.

I have purchased other Summit brand parts and they were good quality and never a problem. They do stand behind their products, so I doubt they would use a questionable supplier, but I would like to know, since this is a critical part.
Not sure about summits but I have been happy with the parts I have bought from them in the past. If Jegs sells them I might me more apt to buy from them if they build them in-house. I plan on just buying one probably for my project, but there are a lot of threads on making them on the HAMB. I guess that's the best way to control quality. Seems pretty simple to build a no frills column. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=666232 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=679895&highlight=build+your+own+steering+column http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11850&highlight=build+your+own+steering+column
