I have a Sun Red Dot tachometer model RC50 and a Sun Tachometer Transmitter EB 9A and I want to use them on a 350 Chevrolet with electronic conversion in the distributor . #1 question will this set up work with the converted distributor and #2 what is the wiring diagram if the set up is usable with this engine ? Thanks Mike B.

You have to have the transmitter converted to no batteries. You can’t get the batteries any longer. Do a search on here. It was discussed a bunch.

  4. Try Williamsons speedometer repair, I think they are listed in the services section of Hemmings Motor News.

Batteries are easy to make. The battery that was used was 1.35V and the size of a AA. Take a 1.5V AA battery and put in a flashlight and run the battery down to 1.35V. It will last a long time and is what we are using.

I am not sure about hooking up though to electronic.

  7. I have been using my red "football" Sun tach since 1965. I called the tech guys at the company who bought out Sun Electric back in the early '90s.....they said the EB9A sender was so crudely designed that it would not know the difference between 1.35 volts (original Mallory battery) and any 1.5 volt AA battery,

Also, it have it running off my Pertronix Ignitor in my distributor......been working OK for over 25 years.
