I’ve pulled it off so that I can repair it. My question is, does the black plastic backing come off or do I need to pry the bezel off the front to get in there?
    Thanks.

I’m sure someone has been inside one of these before. The plastic on the back is already a little cracked, so if it doesn’t come off, I don’t really wanna mess it up trying.
I’m going to mess with it sometime this week, so hopefully someone has some insight.
I’ll post up the results regardless.

I am pretty sure you have to take the Bezel off to do any service!

Well, I was able to open the tach by getting the plastic off the back of the gauge. it doesn’t look too good in there though. The needle is somehow just gone, which I don’t understand. And it looks like the mechanism is damaged.
this is what I got out of it. It’s difficult to get a good photo of the mechanism, but hopefully it’s good enough for someone to see. Am I screwed here?

  6. Actually good pictures - was the pointer there at one time ? The face/football is held on by the two little screws so I would guess they backed off - maybe due to vibration ?

Yea, the pointer was there. It was a perfectly functioning tach till it vibrated loose in there on Sunday.
The two screws from the back were in the cup when I removed the tach. The rest pictured above is what came out when I opened the tach. Quite a bit shook loose. Maybe I’m driving too hard!

Check out. MoMa Manufacturing in Albuquerque, NM. I've had them repair and recalibrate all my S&W and Sun gauges since they were here in North Hollywood. Quick service and fair prices.
