Carps, That is insanely beautiful work. Great from conception to completion. Macca, That thing is brutal. Love the weathering. Road_Rage_Rube, Love the idea of a 300 Gasser. (And I don't know why.) Zed, That is a beautiful paint job. It takes a lot of guts to chop it after paint. Good luck with that. 61falconwagon, Mad Mod, baby. That is looking great and can only get better. DakotaJohn, This may be my favorite of them all. Simple, complete, and a beautiful color/paint job. You should be proud. ( as a parent, tho, there's enough love for everyone. That sounded sappy didn't it? My-diddily-I, just call me Flanders.) ol'skool29, Looking good, man. Omega, I always love your work but this Willy's is the best thing yet. Diggin' on the Pick-up as well. skinanbones, Beauty, eh?! classicfins, Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.
I finally took some shots on the Merc from Christmas break. First model in about 37 years. I sectioned the interior, removed the inner fender wells so that would bring the motor up, and able to lower it. Sort of a Hot Rod Kustom.
So I gotta ask - when you guys modify your kits (engines and drivelines mostly, various body parts) do you scavenge from other kits, make them yourself or is there a secret source for random bits like engines and the like? I don't want to be a goldchainer model builder by any means, but my moms tossed out my old model kits years ago so there's no "Plastic Scrap Yard" anymore now that I want to get back into models.
Absolutely stellar job on this paint scheme. Reminds me of a truck I saw in the Mooneyes Christmas party thread. (see below) Also, I believe this is post number 666 for me! JT
Here's a pic of the bare metal (painted bare metal) willys slot car body I was working on making a for last years "Slots of Doom". Has any one used a Micro-Mark Gluing jig? http://www.micromark.com/MAGNETIC-GLUING-JIG-10-1and4-SQUARE,7038.html I had a bitch of a time getting this dragster frame glued nice and straight using tape. Think I might make one of these magnetic jigs.
Is it just me, or is the angle of the engine off? Nice build, and nice details, just doesn't seem quite right.
Damn, don't tell me chainers are doing models now too. I guess when times are tough, still got to stay in the game somehow.
heres my 53 i mentioned earlier. i'm almost done with the bodywork. i'll probably shoot primer, and sketch out a few paint designs for a week or two, then i'll mask it up and paint it. this one isnt getting an ordinary paintjob, this one's gonna be crazy! i'm so glad i was able to pull off this chop. the roof had to be cut in 4 pieces, this was my first time cutting a roof in quarters. i dont know what i should do, mild flames on the front clip, and rear fenders, or crazy scallops down the sides, similar to how i drew them??? if i do scallops i'll make it more like a panel/scallop paintjob like the bottom of the front fender, i like that look.
Looks OK in person but I agree, in the pics it just looks wrong. So, the belly pan has been removed, engine is out and I'm making a new mount so it sits right.
Carps, you are crazy! I think I would have left it. Did it hurt the paint job? On a related note, do you know anywhere in Oz I can get the Testors Candy Apple Red from? I cant find that anywhere? Ol'skool, Id go with the scallops, they look sweet! Cheers, Doc.
Doc Watson- Can you get Tamiya's clear red? I'm really happy with a '69 Camaro I paited using that over their gold. You mentioned masking earlier. I like Tamiya's masking tape. It's thin and it holds the cleanest edge I've ever seen.
Doc, I think I may have some, will confirm. However, on my red deuce coupe I used thinned clear red over a gold base and it worked OK, the more red applied the more opaque it becomes. Didn't damage the paint so no problem.
