Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Omega, Dec 28, 2008.

  1. Some more work done on my ch***is.
All the major ch***is is soldered together, once I make the front axle and suspension, rear end and motor mounts I will add more detail to the ch***is like steering brackets and what not.

    - I agree with it shrinking. I'm a 1/1 scale guy and too old and too shakey to build models nowadays, but I love the scale builds.
    - 'The Fidgiter' and 'Whodaky' used to post every week.I always enjoy their builds. Fidgiter still posts but where's Whodaky?.................Mike

  3. I was talking to Geoff, 'Whodaky' just the other day, he lurks but no longer posts. Its a shame but to each their own.

Hey, can any of you guys tell me if there is an aftermarket plastic or resin visor for the AMT '51 Fleetline 1/25 kit? I bought one of those kits and never built it, because, it just wont look right with out the visor, and the kit dosen't come with one.

  7. If you want an O/T model that will simply blow your mind check this out!!

This guy is pretty much the best model builder I have ever seen, even better than Gerald Wingrove!!
The link has a little about the builder and has two of his models in detail, the first is a F4U Corsair, 1/16th scale all scratch built and the second is a P-51 same scale and all scratch built.

Seriously folks these are breath taking even if your not into madels!

    1/8 scale of a 1931 Rolls Phantom 2 ch***is. 1/8 of 19 feet = 30" ;)
All ch***is rails and crossmembers are accurate in diameter and cross-section to less than 1/16". Springs are hacksaw blades laminated, bound with br*** and soldered. Shackles operate correct.

Long way to go on this one.......1/6 scale Kurtis 500 built as a tire test car for Firestone in 1954 (?) Not the correct Hemi, but I think Liberty now has an early Hemi available. Motor sits as-is with the LH head leaning over the frame. All holes and flanges scale correct in number and diameter. Injection shaft holes are aligned for an operable linkage.

Others are 1/4 scale fibergl*** Robnell Concept (Australian........now being used as a light shade hanging upside down from the ceiling), also cast aluminum replica of a Dooling tether car.

What material are your leafs made of? I'm interested in making some myself.

  12. Dunno about the aftermarket, but I'm pretty sure the Galaxie '47 Chev kits come with such a visor, which should be easy to adapt to other models.

Isn't there a Hemi and a Pontiac in the rerelease of the AMT engine parts pack. Neat ch***is by the way. I wish I had the patience and skill to be able to solder one together like that.

Try AMT49 Ford kit, it has two hoods (depending which grill you use). Cut scale 5-6 inches of the rear of the one that you don't use and you have the visor that you need.
    Cheers Rod:cool:

Hey Gearstix.......used hacksaw blades with the teeth ground off cos they were handy and the right length.....model sits on the temporary wood blocks.........buy some spring steel strip to do it correct (hacksaw blades are soft on the top edge).
The model was being built as a trial for a full size V12 Merlin powered car with a sports body but had a better offer and sold the ch***is. Have the engine block and valve covers modelled in wood too but no photos.

Thanks cobber (michael037) the scale motor needs to be 1/6 to match the ch***is. That ch***is has only been washed with water to remove the solder paste, but will come up a treat with Scocthbrite. Was at a standstill because I did not have reference photos at the time. I scaled the whole thing from a large photo in an Indianapolis Roadster book by Gordon Eliot White. The ch***is is in storage in Melb.
