Great work Whodaky! The sedan conversion is kool.... I've never worked in 1/8th scale, is it easier/harder than smaller scales?
Irish Dan, I've used a variety of glues depending on what I've worked on. Liquid adhesives like Tenax-7 works great especially for body mods or anytime you're gluing styrene to styrene because it "welds" the pieces together. If you're gluing different materials together(metal to plastic, etc.)super glues work well. For gluing windshields or other clear parts to bodies, I use 2 part 5min. epoxy because it dries clear and won't fog like super glues do. It also works great for areas where you want strength like the suspension.
Here are a couple pics of my latest-- Chopped`32 pickup, I converted a Lindberg `34 cab to a `32, chopped it, bobbed the bed and added it to a Revell `32 ch***is, then threw in a Hemi from the Revell 5-window kit added a six carb intake from Replicas and Miniatures.
Here's a late '50's issue 36 Ford roadster. My Dad had it and glued it together. I rebuilt it from the glue bomb into this. I chopped the top as well. I dispay it with the org. box.
Some one had mention Johan Models on page one. They seemed to make a lot of AMC and Chrysler models. Here is the 60 Plymouth Wagon, built completly stock out of the box. The dragster is a shortened Tommy Ivo ch***is, with aluminum body. The engine came from AMT's 29 Model A kit.
Kool stuff. Today I started on an old AMT 40 Willys glue bomb. ( going to shine up the old light blue plastic ) Also picked up the new monogram Black Widow kit and started on that too.
Here is another Johan model I built close to thirty years ago. I used their 64 Dodge S/S kit body, moved the rear wheels forward to match Revells Willy ch***is. The 426 engine was from a Johan F/C kit. They made the best looking 426 motors with M/T valve covers, and a four hole Hilborn injector, I used a Endele injector on this model.
cool stuff today! Here's my AMT 49 merc I'm workin on. Chopped top, makin a 51 rear window, fadaways, fins for 54 packard taillights made from styrene. I guess the inspiration is the Dave Bugarin merc. It'll take me forever to get it done here it is.
I got the idea for this car from an old issue of Hot Rod Magazine. They feature four different four cylinder dragster that ran in X/D cl***. I used an old Revell parts pack dragster ch***is. Front axle is from the Orange Crate. The engine is from Revell's 28 Ford pick up. The rear wheels are from a Monagram 1/32 scale Fiat kit...They were just perfect for a 28x6 inch slick.
great stuff guys didn't get too much done this week but i'll post some pics anyway .... cut the door open started working on the drip rail and prob. radius the sides of the hood hopefully this week i'll get more done
Great stuff as usual. Love the 4-banger X/D and the work on both those Mercs is very impressive. Another terrific Model Car Sunday!
Thankyou to everyone who contributed this week. You guys are doing some amazing stuff. Mojo. The no hole halibrands are sought of one of offs. I make them for myself. Below is a link to a thread on the Scale Motor Cars site, showing those wheels and numerous others I do in 1/8th. As I said, I only do them for my projects and have no real desire to make them available for sale! http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/building-tutorials/2303-narrow-aluminium-rims.html Lyle Willits, that 2 door Merc wagon in your post is unbelievable. And gives me some ideas for a couple of 1/18th diecast mercs I have on the go! Irish Dan, on my 1/18th diecasts and on my 1/8th resin models I use a product called JB Weld; which is a 2 part liquid metal. It's a little expensive here, but I find it ideal for the stuff I use it for. It is made in the USA. Ferbz, that '57 Chrysler is beautiful. It should be done in 1:1. I work in a variety of scales and have no favorite. However this last year or so I have mostly been working on 1/18th diecasts. The thing is with the bigger scale models, is it takes a lot of searching to end up with a good varitey of parts. Fortunately I have been building for over 40 years, so I have am***ed a substantial parts box ( es ) full of parts in all scales. Kendall, the chop on you Merc project is perfect, I can't wait to see that model completed! Thanks again guys. For a great Sunday Models
