Great start on your build. Would it be possible to replace your round headed br*** screws holding the body panels on with smaller flat head/countersunk screws from model car parts suppliers? Then paint them satin silver. It would make it look as though your panels were held on with dzus fasteners as opposed to large, scale wise, screws..... I'm in no way putting your build down. It's just an opinion........Mike

Way to go Lyle, nice awards.

  5. Funnycar, the KK looks great.
Heres an old build that ive put a few hours in on latley. Got radiator mounted, and tray mostly done, except for paint. I was going to flake it up, but now in thinking, rust and old speed parts decals.

Muscle cars.... Bud, ya gotta learn to correct the color balance on your camera to get rid of the off-color casts while shooting. Until then, in post-production try a simple photo editing program that allows you to auto correct the color. Here is one of your shots re-done with the touch of one ****on on photoshop for color and one for sharpness. I liked the models, too. Gary

Mike: you are correct sir. I had just put those panels on for the first time about 30 mins. before I took the picture. They are 1/8" heads which would make them 1" round dzus ****ons. I'm going to grind them flat and paint them silver. Good eye for detail, there Boss:)

1" dzus fasteners are too big. My best friend, Al Bergler, has been building dragster bodies for over 50 years. He also did many 60's funny car interior trim panels and still makes aluminum hoods, fan shrouds, dragster bodies. He uses 1/2 - 5/8" dzus fasteners. I'm not telling you how to build your own car but I'm particular about detail just like you are.1" is too large. Take care......Mike

    I've attached several pics...
Click onto pictures to enlarge and click twice for full size..The first picture is of a dragster that Al recently finished for Bruce Elmer (that's NOT Al standing there)...........The second picture is of Al standing in front of two cars that he built, raced and recently restored "MOWOWN SHAKER" Vega funny car and "MORE AGGRAVATION" fuel dragster. That IS Al standing next to his funny car at the Detroit Autorama talking to 2 guys.

On the subject of Dzus type fasteners the head of the size that is most common on circle track cars measures between .685 and .700 depending on the brand and style. The shank diameter is in the .400 range.
