OK I can't see where it's started, so here goes. I figure you might like to see a little more on the cars from the latest HAMB Model Build-off I'll start with some construction shots. 1st mock-up..... 2nd mock-up.... Swapped heads from '50 Pick-up engine for R&M of Maryland parts, which are stunningly perfect in every detail. Added SCOTT blower from R&M Engine coming together....... Magneto is Joe Hunt unit from old AMT Deuce kit. Engine detailed with red enamel and various aluminium, iron, br*** and copper metalisers . Carb's are 'Aussie Strombergs' with inlet on opposite side to US models. Headers came from the Revell '41 Willys street-rod, fit the R&M Ardun heads perfectly. Rear end...... The airbags located it perfectly so I left them in place although they are almost invisible on the ***embled car as is the adapted transverse spring. Body...... Cowl is filled and then redrilled for the R&M Duval 'screen. Trunklid was cut out and replaced with louvred unit from Revell Deuce 5 window coupe. Cowl side bubble added for cowl steering system. Paint is One Shot enamel, 'Pure Purple' with a touch of cobalt added, thinned and applied by airbrush.
Done........ Dash is , R&M '40 Ford unit with kit steering column cleaned up and Revell '40 wheel. Gear lever from old AMT Deuce kit. Other details: Wheels are from Revell '50 Merc, tyres are resin from the parts box and require gentle machining with drum sander for perfect fit to wheels. Wheel backs are from AMT41 Ford, with Alclad Chrome and red enamel detailing. Side steering linkage from old Dragster kit, cut to fit, steering unit on firewall from Quaker State Sprint-car kit. Exhaust pipe is aluminium tube, bent to fit. Trick here is to insert matching solder into tube before bending. Then heat lightly to melt solder and remove from tube. Headlamps and front shocks are from kit, paint detailed, rear shocks and spring from The Parts Box. Tailamps from AMT '34 Ford Street Rod coupe kit. Moon tank from Revell 5 window with chrome stripped and aluminium metaliser. Front axle from kit (modified to lower car more) and hairpins from the 5 window kit.
Nice work Pete. Started on a new 1/18th diecast this week. Pieced together from parts bought individually from ebay. A ways to go, but I am liking how it is shaping up! Geoff aka whodaky
Thanx guys. That's looking pretty cool Geoff. Started on a custom '40 coupe, but need some striping practice so think I'll spend the next week or so pulling some lines in between custom body work.
Great start, excellent builds. Here is another from my collection of 30 years ago. A replica of the 56 Ford hardtop my brother drove to high school. Yes it had dual rear aerials (didn't everyone put those on), 302 auto and a big back seat for recreational activities. Starting to show some wear from storage.
Here is a couple of shots of my hemified coupe that did not get finished in time for the build off. It will get finished later. Couple of shots of the engine. The wire sticking straight up is the coil wire, coil is to be mounted on the firewall.
Once again- great work on that roadster, Carps. It's stunning. My '32 sedan was chopped & channeled w/ the Ardun conversion flathead straight out of the '50 Ford truck kit. The ch***is is otherwise out of the box, w/ the front axle lowered a little. The wheels & front tires are from a Monogram sprint car kit, & the rear cheater slicks are aftermarket gems from Ma's Resin. I reworked the interior to allow for the channel, & coated the body w/ some satin black. Here's a few in progress pics. And one of it that I didn't submit for voting. I was pretty happy w/ the finished build.
Here's the coolest shot of my Turbonique drag axle equipped T altered, It was based on one that was in HRM a few issues ago. That one was Pink though.
The '64 Belvedere straight axled street freak from the last Build-Off was mine. It was built as a low buck (whatever that means in hot rodding) in- progress car that most wrenchers could build in thier home garage. I used a Lindberg kit with a few parts from a Petty stock car kit (the Hemi & the roll cage). I added the injected manifold from a Lil Red Wagon kit, some parts box leafs up front & fabbed the straight axle from aluminum tubing. I used multiple coats of paint & dusted it w/ chalks to give it that "weekend project" look. I was really happy w/ the end result.
I did this as a scratch build many years ago.. it was fun to do.. Nice cars everyone.. Sweet builds..
Great stuff as always including builds I haven’t seen anywhere else but here. The ghost shot on the Turbonique is very cool! And I love that street freak Belvedere. Nice work! That '34 sits real pretty - can't wait to see more! And finally, Carp’s purple Deuce is one I have seen before but it’s always a treat to see it again. A real stunner! Here is some recent activity from my bench. My latest completion, a ’57 T-Bird mild (?) custom including a fantasy Hot Rod cover (phun with photoshop). On my bench now, a chopped and channeled ’32 Tudor with a scratch built ch***is. Thanx for lookin’ B.
I actually build model cars but I specialize in building actual replicias of former service stations . Case in Point , Quality Oil Winston Salem North Carolina My latest project is a former Crown Central station that was active in Highland Springs Virginia : scrubba
Part way through a chop on a 40, think the top is going to come back off as Im not happy with it. Doc.
WOW, I am just knocked out by the talent of all you model builders! Very nice, those models are very impressive!
Where did you get that Turbonique axle?? Man I want one. I still think you should have won best Hemi powered car Doc.
are there any youtube videos on how to do this extreme modeling? like doing the chops and where to get the really realistic models?
