Made a fair bit of progress this week on the roadster. Did all the tin work for the interior ( all in stainless ). Tin work just needs a little fine tuning and then refinishing with a brushed finish. Geoff aka whodaky

Also here is a couple of shots of the bellypan/ch***is. This model isn't going to have a conventional ch***is.

While I had the camera out I thought I would take a shot of this one.
It is one I started a while back and I showed intial under construction shots in here. It was at the time inspired by NealinCA's in progress real roadster pickup, but wasn't going to be exactly the same as his. At the time I was calling it 'Not quite the Nealin Ca special '. Well the direction has changed a bit more again and this one will now end up with a shiny paint job and be a lot more showy than was my original intention! However I started working again on this one before I really got into the roadster shown in my previous post this week, so the roadster pickup is on the backburner again. I have also started on a 1/18 diecast channeled '32 roadster project, which I will show images of when it takes a bit more shape. Geoff aka whodaky

Wow, that floor pan is radical! And that pickup has the look for sure!

This is nothing compaired to that, but I think it's pretty cool. Picked this up at napa around christmas time, it had some hideous "rimz" on it that I tossed out right away, finally got it off of blocks and onto some wide whites. Also an adjustment to get it into the taildragger stance. I still need to fabricate some skirts, I'll probably keep the pearl white.

I also removed the boss '9 motor (saved that piece) and replaced it with an early ohv caddy with 4 carbs.

The interior is actually pretty nice, red and white, p***able for a traditional kustom.

WOW!!! The detail and craftmanship is great on those. Are they about the size of a soda pop can? Got pictures of any others?

    Geoff,

That roadster is really coming out sweet, and the RPU looks sick. If you're going to go glossy, you might look into a set of belly-burner pipes along the bedrails.

Hey Automotive stud, your model looks great to me. We all work at different levels. I have been messing with this stuff longer than I care to remember.

Cobiray, the models I have shown the last couple of weeks are a bit bigger that a soda can. These are 1/18th in scale and are diecast metal, but very modified. Regular plastic models are 1/25th in scale and are probably the size you are thiinking about. If you do a search on here for Model Sunday, you will find a bunch of images on old threads. Lots of talented model builders in here.

Gowjobs thanks for the positive comments. I hear you on the pipes. Not sure what the color will be and this will have a big bearing on stuff like the pipes etc. If you remember I scratch built a ch***is from aluminium for this model. If I was really going over the top as a show car i could polish the outer rails of the ch***is. But this is going to be more the street driven showy old hot rod. I had a set of wheels with 49 caddy caps mocked up on it as well, if I went the show car route it would have them! But they will be saved for a future project, don't know what that project will be, but those Caddy caps will be just perfect. You know how it is!!
For those that never saw the ch***is of the roadster pickup I have attached a few images. Scratch built in aluminium!. Geofff aka whodaky

Thankyou Hemifarris. I have been messing with models for over 35 years. Although in this last 10 or so I haven't worked on them as intensely as I did for a long time before that. Really what I have shown in here is just the tip of the ice burg of what I have done over the years.
My model building and the real hot rods I own and work on, compliment each other so well.! Geoff aka whodaky

I've *finally* gotten somewhere on the 1/8 rpu deuce.

Believe it or not, there's about 40 foot of strip styrene in this puppy.

whodaky, how are joining the frame parts together? Is that solder, or epoxy? Outstand work!

sinkemlow, that tuck and roll is killer! Did you find half-round strips, or are you making them yourself out of full round?

Mojo, I use a 2 part metal epoxy. called JB Weld, I by it at K Mart here. It is a US product and I know lot of people on the HAMB use it for all sorts of stuff. On my metal models not only do I use it as an adhesive, I also use it as a filler and a build up material. The beauty of it as a filler/ build up material, is that it doesn't get rock hard; so it is easily worked by filing , sanding or even sculpting. But it bonds extremely well, so unlike other epoxies it tends not to break off the material you have adhered it to! Geoff aka whodaky

Sinkem, that's some work you got happening there.Wondered where you have been lately. Nice trim job and the dash is looking good. I hope you don't mind , but I am going to send those images of your trim to a friend of mine on the west coast here.
Thank you Sinkem, the roadster is coming a long very nicely. That frame I made about 18 months ago for the pickup project.
If you haven't seen it, there must be so much more of my stuff you haven't seen that I have posted in the past. I seldom repost images I have posted previously, don't want to bore the people who may have already seen them.
One tends to forget that there are new people showing up on here all the time. Example being Buick 57 above, he is an Aussie I have known for many years and a great model builder. I don't think he has built for a number of years now, but I think him hanging out on the HAMB and especially seeing what other guys are doing here on Model Sunday. It won't be long before he gets some glue out. Geoff aka whodaky

Hahaha thanks guys...yes I am a little sick in the head...glutton for punishment...etc...:D

Mojo - I used .125 x .060 strip styrene, and rounded the edges over. Half round just looks too...well...round.

Geoff - Thanks bud...I don't mind a bit if you p*** them on. I've gone back and checked most of the model threads before, but didn't want to bump the old threads so didn't comment on anything. There's tons of great stuff here, to be sure.

I found these in a "N" scale Model RR catalog. (1:160)

    The detail is pretty amazing.

Man-o-man! Metal fab, tuck & roll! Way cool stuff!

I've been fighting with the engine for my 50 Ford. I ended up using the block, ****** & Offenhauser heads from the 49 Merc kit. The intake & carbs are from the 50 Ford truck kit. The water pumps are from the 53 Ford kit & the pulleys are scratch built. The generator & distributor are from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland. I used paper for the belts, but they need to be a bit thicker. This was just to get the belt routing happening. Oh yeah, I also thinned out the fan blades quite a bit. The stacks will be cut off & replaced with aluminum tubing.

The heads had bad molding for the inlets, so I cut some from the stock heads, glued them to the Offy heads & also modified the tops of the heads to look more correct. I still need to add the small inlets on the tops, & Rikster says they need acorn nuts, too.

It's a tight fit, but it just may work.

Aside from everything else, those are some good looking tires. What are they from?

How the heck did you make those belts?

I'm ac***ulating parts for a chopped and dropped Kustom '47 Ford. A tribute to the car my pop used to have.

I'll let Steve say fer sure on the tires, but both Amt and Revell have included some really nice wide white bias plys in many releases over the last few years. I think my favorites are in the latest reissue of the Revell '31 Ford (bigs n littles).

Belts are drafting tape, I'm pretty sure...correct me if I'm wrong Steve.

Very cool stuff yet again this week.

And again, not much work to show from me....however, look at what I get to build!!! Via Mr. Piero aka Evel....

This is it, so I have a LOT of scratch building ahead of me. I'm up to the challenge...

Thanks! The tires are from Modelhaus. Like Zed said, T270's (I think) They are soft black resin, with hard white resin whitewall inserts. Notice the front tire has a different whitewall insert. I smoothed out one of the ones from Modelhaus, made a mold, & cast it. Once the insert is painted off white, it will look better.

The belts? Regular old paper colored with a Sharpie.:D
