They look great. The couple of Hubley kits I built as a kid never looked anywhere near what those look like. You are fortunate have them and the memories.
yeah I know it's been a while (April to be exact)since I last posted, doesn't mean I haven't been building though. Here are some I've finished since then. And one out of character for me Thanks for looking and sorry I haven't been posting regularly.Happy Modeling !
Damn....you hit right where it feels good with that 32 Roadster,...raised white lettered tires on a black (dark) reversed wheel just says cool. The whole package ,color combo, nerf bars, Very cool.
PACERS Fuel Altered, 1:16 brass project. After more than a month of looking for 12 spoke wheels in 15", tires are also nowhere to be found. I made my own 12 spokes. Here the method and the results.... Here the real car, photo courtesy Scott Snizek; Brass 12 spokes @ 15" Other side; First off, an aluminum pipe segment with the exact inner diameter, 23 mm needed. The outer rim is annealed, bent and soldered together, visible inside the pipe; The inner rim using an alloy with more copper (stronger, more rigid), already prepped for thee spokes. The inner rim was annealed, bent and soldered up against the outer rim....both inside the aluminum pipe; Inner rim just slide fits into the outer rim; Getting things aligned, a good drawing is needed, also a shot of the hub/spacer with 1.4 mm tubing for the spokes; Spacer/hub; The method works; Meantime, wider nylon O-rings have arrived. They were filed down on the outer surface to make a flatter pavement contact. They work, cheap too. This project is moving along once again. Motor has arrived, now in the works. Mike..
Mike, I'm amazed by what you do. Each post/photo is interesting because nothing is standard out-of-the-box. You have the ability to work out each stumbling block and come out golden.
Thank you quick for the recognition, greatly appreciated. I ordered and received resin wheels form 2 different vendors, just the "quality", or rather lack thereof forced me to move on....thinking even before starting this project the 12 spoke wheels will be a major problem. They had to get done. The wire wheels on the FEDs worked, so basically, the same methods were applied this time....grateful it's over. Next time on a future car will be much easier. Mike..
As always Mike....perfection. Them resin wheels are not for you. To get something that fits your quality of builds you pretty much have to build it your self....general hobby parts suppliers can't provide the quality of parts that equal your caliber of builds...they couldn't make any money. That's what makes your builds so cool...you build them....no kits...just you. Thanks for sharing them with us.
guess I'll start off Sunday model show with this '49 Ford Coupe I just finished.Color is Tamiya TS-51 Racing Blue, parts box items also used. Thanks for looking and Happy Modeling !
PACERS Fuel Altered, some motor progress. This is a 3d printed 392 kit from a FB trio, excellent, smooth parts. The motor width, valve cover to valve cover is exact scale. Cannot get any better. They are 1320 MODEL PRODUCTS in case anyone would be interested. Only available from FB. I decided to add some brass features and a few changes to replicate the real car. The large tubes in the heads are to allow the exhaust pipes (scale 2.5") to have a sturdy base, not sure yet if the exhaust tubes will slide over the stubs or rods sliding inside them....figure this out later on. For holes in non-metal parts I prefer to sleeve them so the bolts will sit properly later on. Still small things to do , more later... Mike..
Hey Deuces, those are my models dude!!!! Glad you like ‘em! I have a few more ‘62 -‘66 SS’ers I could post if anyone’s interested. John (papajohn97)
Here’s some I don’t think I’ve posted on here before. This ‘62 Ford is kitbashed using the AMT ‘60 Starliner for chassis/ engine/ interior and a resin body and homemade decals:
This one was built from the Revell ‘65 Chevelle Z16 1/24 kit with lots of aftermarket and scratch built parts and Slixx decals:
This is my attempt at making a silk purse out of AMT’s really bad ‘65 Mustang “Funny Car” kit. Joe Curtis of Fremont Racing Specialties made these and the Les Ritchey decals for me. If you’re into modeling classic 60’s SS, A/FX, early funny cars, check his decals out on eBay, they are fabulous.
This is the Lindberg ‘64 Dodge with aftermarket decals (stripes were painted) and lots of aftermarket snd scratch built stuff under the hood. I have a few other SS models I’ve posted on here last year, just do a search using my name if you’re interested. I’m taking a break from SS’ers these days (currently building an Airfix B-17G and Revell’s new tooled XKE roadster) but will try to post more HAMB friendly model cars on here in the near future. Cheers, John
I don't know why exactly but the Kelly Chadwick Malibu is my fave. First, a great looking model. Second, you seldom see the name Kelly Chadwick. Third, a good friend had a '64 Malibu in high school (1968) that looked good in Navy Blue with chrome reversed wheels and sitting high at all four corners. Forth, I got to borrow it if my '66 Nova was down. Thanks, Dave Artis, wherever you are.
I just started on building my first diorama. 1/24 scale Texaco station. Kinda using the photo of an old station in my boyhood hometown as a guide. I believe the station was built in the late 50's early 60's. Any suggestions to sites or books that might be helpful? Thanks. D Starting with this:
Very cool! I started working at one in Dearborn when I was 15... Every day after school and on weekends... Now there isn't one Texaco station left in Michigan... At least I don't think there is....
Hey Dennis, nice start to your Texaco station. Not to steal away from your post but here is the one I have.I started with a 2 bay garage from ScaleModelingbyChris who unfortunately passed away a few years back and is no longer in business,he made some great diorama buildings which were laser cut and very easy to build along with gas pumps from different eras.I made the overhang using a resin roof and evergreen tubing, plastic menu letters you would see on menu boards in restaurants. By the way my Uncle and Aunt also live in St. Peters
Nice job! That is the same kit I am starting with. I wish I could find one of the bathroom kits he made. Where did you get the lights and would like to see some more detailed pictures so I can "maybe borrow" some of them. Thanks, Dennis
Thank you, here are a couple more pics,if it helps ya.The lights are Hobbico,AAA battery run.Think they are for show lighting in a display case, they are flat and have a little wheat bulb. You should still be able to find them, the bathroom stuff is another story.Rumor has it that Paul's family threw all the molds away after his death which I find hard to believe since his brother Chris started the business in the first place until he got into doing airplanes and handed off the dio stuff to Paul.Really miss Paul and always wondered what he would have come up with next. This last pic was taken a while back,I no longer have Fast Eddies speed shop and car lot so the dio has taken a slight downturn. Now only have the Texaco station,Bob's Diner and Hank's Speed shop.I sold Fast Eddies to a fellow club member a couple months ago.Hope this helps ya a little more I can take some more pics of the Texaco station if you like.
