Well its been a while since I posted, and I see this old thread has'nt grown that much. Anyways here's my latest build. 1/87 scale 32 ford ratrod.
Bob...GREAT job lettering the cap. Did you paint, then wipe? Please lay your method on us, it's excellent.
You caught me Mike. Brushed on the red, then immediately wiped with a dry paper towel. I normally dab the towel in thinner, but tried it dry and werked great. Thanx by the way.
So, it seems I never get a chance to check in of late which seems to line right up with my inability to finish a project as well. If anyone here is on the Face Book page titled "Unfinished Models" you may know what I'm currently trying to tackle but for those who aren't familiar, here it is… (Also, it seems the new format has relaxed the H.A.M.B. rules regarding only H.A.M.B. friendly traditional rods and customs 1964 and prior. Is that correct?) "Buick Del Ray show car" From putting the brakes on the big block fuel injected street machine…. to the chop shop where I cut and reverced the coves and shaved the hood (lousy pictures, sorry) The mill will now be the nail head from the AMT 1940 Ford coupe kit …
I like the 'Vette too, Jigger. A great friend of mine was doing a '56 T-Bird (Bonneville style) and I really admired it...everybody in our club knew it. LOL He passed away suddenly, another friend was in charge of his estate...and gave me the T-Bird project. I promise I'll finish it, in his honor....but working on my full size stuff right now. P.S.: Where'd the Halibrands come from?
Thanks Mike, the t-bird story is touching. Traggic but very nice that you'll have a chance to pay him a bit of a tribute. The Halibrands came from the AMT '41 Ford Woody kit. All wrong for that kit in my oppinion so I replaced them with reverse chromeys with baby moons. The kit was a prepainted kit from Walmart. I'll get some snaps of it. Thanks Bob!
Revell '36 Ford. Chopped up & spliced. Modified, narrowed stock grille. Scatchbuilt '35 Olds hood side trim. Scratchbuilt ripple flipper hubcaps. After rebuilding the side window openings & driprails.
Jigger- love the cove reversal idea. Steve B-Nice chop on the '36. I cheated and bought the resin body, still gotta finish. All of the club and contest stuff is gone. The only thing left is all of the old Sunday Models posts and maybe some of the contest voting threads. A lotta good stuff gone.
Bummer… guess I'll just have to repost all my goodies on here. What about the H.A.M.B. friendly policies? Is it free-reign to post whatever year and make or should they remain, as with 99.9% of posts, OT traditional and/or car Kulture related? I see a lot of late model Funnycars and other projects that would not have previously been allowed nor tolerated…(not that I'm trying to put the squelch on them, by the way…)
I don't think the models are policed as much. Coyote keeps them vintage drag and pretty much keeps this thread alive during the summer. We all try to keep close to home (HAMB) but if we stray it's normally not too far. I'd be delighted to see your stuff re-posted. Love your art too.
Thanks man. I'll start dropping them on her ethen. I build pretty much anything I like from old to new so I have several OT newer cars and trucks but the old 'tin' is what I love most. Here's a teaser for now…
Latest progress on the '37 Chevy coupe I've been working on: Repainted the engine and wheels red. Painted on wide whitewalls with Tamiya flat white. Modified the exhaust manifold to make it a split with new headers. Did some front axle and suspension mods but still just can't seem to get the front any lower. I could get the back lower, but I don't want to make a taildragger out of this one.
Been working on this '58 Ford hardtop a bit the past couple weeks and found a home for the Johan '57 Chrysler promo bumper and grill I picked up a long time ago... Needs some refinement and work in other areas but I like it so far!
Making progress too. Need to find some bias ply tires. Anyone know of a technique for removing chrome?
Nice work on Cameo dually! I use Easy-Off Oven Cleaner (the smelly variety in the yellow can) to remove "chrome" plating and the clear lacquer underneath it. Don't use it on polyurethane resin parts, though. Styrene kit parts only!
