I don't see a Sunday Models thread yet so here goes... Built a box fer the 1/8 Deuce over the week. Now I'm in the middle of removin' about 6 scale inches from behind the doors to make the cab a little shorter. Olson
Got this killer 39 tudor kit (that builds a 40 tudor as an option, too!). I love 39/40 sedans, so this is one I've wanted to build for a long while. It's getting 39 Wide Fives, some tall & skinny Firestone blackwall 16" tires, and a Chrysler LA series (318/340) small block with a four speed hooked to an open drive banjo rear. Low-key bomber with an ultra reliable "modern" motor...just the way I'd do one for real!
I've been painting pieces of this 1/8 Big T for a couple of weeks off and on. I wanted to make it to NNL with it yesterday. I had not glued any two pieces together as of 6:30 Friday night. I finished at 4:45am yesterday morning. Just in time to get three hours of sleep before heading out to the show with Hemi. There were a few setbacks that almost made me give up, but at 3am there really is no turning back. The cool thing is that they shot it for Scale Auto magazine. I thought that was pretty cool for my first time at a model show. Anyway here it is. It's the new Big T reissue with a vintage Big Drag accessory kit. I fabricated a center steer setup. I'd noticed that in all the photos of Big Drags people didn't have anything but a steering wheel. No draglink or box or anything. That seemed lame to me. The tank is from the Exterminator kit. I just added a few buildup shots. The first three are time stamped 12:41am. The fourth is at 3:57am. UGH!
I finished this trike on Wednesday night at the Creepy Geeks meeting. The first model I'd built in about 12 years. That makes the Big T #2 I guess. This one's the Taco Trike. I thought it was the lamest one in the set so I started with it, figuring I'd **** up the worst one first and the hopefully get better.
Wow Kirk! You should send me some pics of the T to run in our "Reader's Ride" section. That came out beautiful! Jim
NO! ThaT'S COOL AS ****! I will run it- I'll run a pic of it with the custom. For god's sakes there was a time when you couldn't find anything BUT models in R&C!
Man that big 'T roadster is NICE...I've been too busy for models lately, haven't squeezed one drop 'o glue in a month! -Dean
did this a while ago. it started out as the "jesse james" 24th scale dicast toy, but i cant leave anything alone, so you know how it goes... mods: -wheels from 57 nomad "jesse james" dicast -widened white walls -lengthened rear quarters -canted rear tail lights inward about 40 deg. -frenched head lights -peaked hood -removed trim/drip rails/handles etc. -removed b-pillars -filled rear window what the car looked like originally (i couldnt find a flic of the toy, so here's the car)
here's the first model i've done in about 12 years...'67 rivi not quite a hot rod, but it's a start. forgive the poor quality, damn camera phone...
oh yeah, can't forget my next two...have to redeem myself you know. '49 merc deuce coupe there, that oughta do it i've gotten hooked on these again, dammit!
Where do you guys usually buy your models? Granted I know some stuff you can't really by in a kit, but I was just wondering. Thanks Paul
believe it or not, i found all of mine so far at *gasp* wally world...been looking on ebay too and there's a TON of good ones for cheap there.
Hackster, I've been working on that model myself awhile back. For such an old mold it's still a cool kit, although those hoods sure are hard to have sit right. Great models all of you! Joel
Hack - cool kit. don't paint it brown primer KIRK - Nice job on the T. I just picked that up last week, but I'm tryin' to force myself to finish the Big Deuce...err...rpu before I start in on it. Looks like you gave it a nice clean build. Hopefully they have a build article coming up on that kit. Dart - Nice job...what color is that? Paul - I try to stick with the local hobby shops (support the locals man), or if I need to mail order...Fantastic Plastics. Watch for Hobby Lobby 50% off week...happens a few times a year here. Where the hell's Fidge? Shot of the new box sittin' on the ch***is. Olson
just found this guy that makes some swees *** resin cast models and thought i'd share it with you guys...check his stuff out, it's incredible. might even be here on the hamb for all i know. just sick stuff though...seriously! check it out!
danm, that guy has some cool ****, def gonna add him to the fav sellers list. sinkemlow-it was a vw green that i added a significant amount of gold to. -also if anyone is familar with the 54 west coast customs dicast car that i started with, i'm looking for another one so i can have a stock version, and mine side by side. i cant seem to find it anywhere!
well since utah is the trendiest state in the whole ****ing country, i see those all the time...won't have a chance to get to the store until thurs but if you don't find one before then i'll grab one while i'm there and send it on out to ya.
Here are a couple of Hot Wheels customs I did. One is 99.9% done... the paint is rattlecan Testers orange with Testers Boyds Pearl Yellow over the top. The other is just a mockup at this point.
Thanks Mojo! The whole box is scratchbuilt out of .030 sheet plastic, except for the rear uprights and the tubing on the top of the sides. I cut it out and shaped it all up, and welded it all together with liquid cement. But I can't believe nobody noticed what the raised panel on the tailgate is... Olson
I noticed the tailgate but couldn't completely make it out.....but NOW I get it. Cool! I also noticed the new wheels and tires in the one pic....lets get a side shot with em! Nothing from me this week....motivation is in the toilet. Nice stuff everyone. Kirk, that T rules.
OK, I couldn't resist. Pulled the first truck out of the box to start work on it again. The second....well it will probably end up in the trash can, but I was bored. I'l probably have a lot to show next week. Maybe even some things painted...
That first one has the perfect stance and chop. The second one I'd give the same chop as the first. It'd be pretty cool. Olson
Kirk, what color did you paint that T?? I see a can of duplicolor, and a can of House of Color... is it a candy over silver?
