Bunker Road Victoria Point (Brisbane bayside.) First Sunday every month and the Sunday 2 weeks after. 7 a.m. start, but some get there earlier.
I don't see a single post WW2 war car in that line up! Marvelous site and a great turn out from what I could see. Thanks for posting!
Just curious, I know its a bit more difficult to register Hot Rods or modified vehicles in Australia , Are there rules about chopped tops?
Each state has its own regulations about modified cars, so it’s not simply an’Australia’ thing. And yes, there are regs around chopping, sight lines and windshield heights etc. I have the guideline books for two states and off the top of my head I’m sure one of them has diagrams with seat bases, windows and how to measure that stuff. It would really only come into play in radical situations.
It does have a windshield extended vertically, a-la some of the Bonneville coupes. So the windshield itself isn’t super short. The blue one opposite is shorter.
South Australia, but I am biased. It seems every event there are a couple more hot rods registered. And a few pre-'65 U.S. or Australian cars too.
Where I live in Queensland, there are cars constantly being built. As you can see from pictures I post, we can build pretty much anything we want. There is a system in place to allow that. You go to the rego office to register a new car and the girl (or guy) asks what is is, you say street rod and they say "okay" and click the street rod key and carry on with the paperwork because this state has a category for that. It's not a competition, but some states are easier than others. Some make you jump through more hoops and or have tighter restrictions on some things. The only thing this state is immovable on though is fenders. They are well tired of people trying to get that changed and I have to say they are getting a little pissed off about the nagging. Bottom line is they say "Listen, we let you play your game, we even let the street rod federation administer it, we all know what the rules are so just play the game like that and we can all be happy and we'll leave you alone."
If you get pulled over for missing fenders is it an automatic fine or more like a fix it ticket where you get time to install them and have it signed off?
I've never heard of anyone being pulled over by cops. I do know of occassions where fellow hot rodders have brought to the attention of the local branch of the street rod federation - who the state makes responsible for administering registration - that person X has been driving around without fenders. The result is either a tap on the shoulder and person X is told to 'do the right thing,' or in some cases they have had their rego pulled for 3 months. This has caused some bad blood, but the argument goes 'we are allowed to play the game if we colour within the lines agreed to, if the state thinks we're not holding up our end of the agreement they can pull the rug and make things difficult. And no one wants that.'
