In the Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater, Golden Triangle area, it was Haysley Hood "The mouth of the south". He was also my barber.

Man, those pics bring back such great memories for me. Spending every Friday night and all day Sunday out there. Back in the day, U.S. 30 was the place to be.....

"The infamous Shake, Rattle, and Run 1957 Chevy is about to go through a complete transformation. After retiring the car some 12 years ago, **** Messino and his two sons, Chris and Paul, decided to bring it back out again. The first thing was to update the ch***is. So they brought the car to Gene Pudlo's race car shop in Hammond, Ind. to get a complete overhaul, with the new 25c1 ch***is the old 57 can get in the six second zone. It will be going to modern carriage works paint shop in Bridgeview, Ill in about 3-4 weeks for a new paint job. Pro Stock Racer Kevin Lawrence will be the shoe for **** when he's not racing his Cavalier, so stay tuned for more on the rebirth of Shake, Rattle, and Run! Fuzzy"

Sunday, Sunday commercials were done all over the country. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Someone did a parody of those commercials, but it's been years since I heard it. Went something like,

Sunday, Sunday Sunday..National Amphetemine Speedway.. and went on to promote wheelsatnding Greyhound buses and such. Wish I had a recording. It was funny.

TS, Ive seen that, but looking it up again, they added more pics. Id really like to find somewhere to get 8x10s of the Shaker in its early years and later.

Thanks, Bruno...

I used to have a great commercial sound clip from Thompson Dragway saved on my computer but I cant find it anymore. I'm pretty sure I saved it from a post here on the HAMB. It was an advertisment for a match race between Kelly Chadwick and another guy (I cant remember his name for the life of me). Does anyone have that clip?

I sure do! I have one Detroit Dragway spot from '62 (I think). The local Detroit version of "Sunday..." was done by a duo. Rube Weiss was an early TV and radio announcer in Detroit who had a very distinctive gravelly voice, and the other was Joel Sebastian, then a WXYZ dj who later went to WLS and WCFL in Chicago, if memory serves me. Both men are now deceased.

I'm looking for old Detroit Dragway spots, if anyone knows of any, please PM me!

Steve Evans was awesome. I'm buddies with his son. He invited me to private Super****ers show at SEMA a few years back, and I couldn't get off work. Part way though the show I got a call saying that Steve was gone.

Whether or not Steve was the first with Sunday Sunday Sunday, he was still the king. One of my favorite quotes from him was.......

Q - "What's the best thing about pro stock?"
A - "fuel cars are in the lanes"
or
Q - "What's the second best thing about pro stock?"
A - "two go down, but only one comes back"

Greetings from Long Branch N.J.,Americas first seashore resort and 7 time U.S.summer capital....even here at the Jersey Shore I remember surfing the AM dial and listening to CKLW out of Detroit -Windsor at night when the radio waves cleared up and hearing those Detroit Dragway spots....started out at Atco watching Fair Haven's Harvey Tilton's '62 409 do the 1320 and listening to their spots on W.I.B.G. and then onto E-Town where my buddy and former Wall Stadium Speedway announcing partner Charlie Roberts had a hand in doing the originally named Madison Township Raceway Park's Sunday....Sunday....Sunday thing for many years on the radio.

I always thought that Jan Gabriel was the innovator and I just found this:

http://video.aol.com/video-detail/jan-gabriel-sunday-sunday-sunday/1450992191

I had the opportunity to meet Jan when he stopped by our Chicago BrushMasters display at the World of Wheels in January, bumped into him again last month at the racing memorabilia show out at the Chicagoland Speedway.

Heard most of the U.S.30 commercials on WLS (you almost got it wingnutz...WLS was for Worlds Largest Store but it was Marshall Field's) radio. I remember WSDM, too - smack dab in the middle - Yvonne Daniels, the "Den of Daniels" with her theme: "Back in the Saddle Again"

Jan is in poor health but is still gettin' around to car events - a legend and an inspiration.

sunday sunday sunday at New York national speedway (a dragstrip) in santa moriches. I sure grew up with that!
Love Steve Evans, but nobody ever got close to Jon Lundberg, IMO. He wasn't called the voice of drag racing for nothing.

"CKLW.... The Motor City" I'm in NW Pa. CKLW came in clear as a bell for us. Some of us thought they played better music than the local stations---this was when the few FM stations played mostly cl***ical music. So when you were cruising around you heard a lot of cars with CKLW on their radios. I remember the Sunday, Sunday Sunday drag commercials from there but I don't know what strip they were talking about.
