went to the Monroe swap Saturday walked a few miles with Racefab, saw a few other HAMBers, bought a few gauges and a valve handle and a few more gauges then on the way out I bought some more gauges... today I put the valve handle on the bead roller and stuck some of the gauges in the little hotrod's dash
Made the headers, mounted the brake pedal and master cylinder, and installed the front shocks on the sedan. 62 wagon came by and named it "Pig Pen" because of all the dust the headers are going to throw up. Gus
Started mocking up the innards and checking clearances on the new motor for the Fly, well rebuid motor I should say.
Put a 50 ford dash in the A coupe and repaired my friends 32 shell using another for patches came out sweeeet.
Patched 49 or 50 holes in my pickup bed with the gas torch and welding rod. Old school right? Hell they weren't even the holes to mount the side trim! Then after pondering chemical paint strippers, grinding and sanding or stripping disks in the old drill.... in the heat, in the driveway, for hours, making a mess,....decided I'd take the bed to the sand blaster. Cleanup will be much faster too. Dan
I went to Monroe Swap......this year I made a pledge...NO BUYING SOMETHING I DIDN"T NEED....no art, no collecting, no spending the money in my pocket just because....and I did it!
After installing a pocket kit and widening the wheelwells I needed to come up with a tire and wheel combo. After a lot of teeth knashing and hand wringing I ordered the combo seen here. Fits perfectly. 15 x 10 Draglites with 7.5" backspace mounting P325/50-15 Hoosier DOT stickies.
Rebushed my pedals, painted them up & hung em! Next up,.....figure out how to get stripped & frozen studs out of my aluminum heads. It's the thermostat housing studs....any suggestions?
Found out the timing chain and gear was bad in the T. Removed the old and replaced it with new stuff.Still need to mount the radiator and shell, back on, to be finished up.
cleaned the garage, went through some cabinets so's i can keep tabs on where stuff is. --- loaded a few boxes with 'swapmeet gooodies' let my nomad sit outside all day to air out & the mice could get out awhile & stretch their legs!
Last three weekends have been going at the body on the 40. Fill, prime, block, repeat as neccessary....Hopefully some day it will be ready for color. Made a major change in plans, was going to paint it black but have decided to go with Dove gray. I'm already tired of body work and I have'nt even started on the fenders yet.
Welded up the old fuel filler hole on the cab of my 46, and since my wife's out of town on business I took my dog to the local Sonic drive in for ice cream.
Saturday Pepe got new motor mounts and plug wires....then I sat around and watched john Ford Man and HotRodFreak finish up a Model A Coupe. Sunday I started buffing Pepe and got about half way done before calling it a day.
Got off Work this morning @ 10, runnin' on 3 hours' sleep (worked the night before, came back to fill in for 3 zombie hours), helped my old neighbor Kevin try 'n fix his Ford F-150. Ignition blues. He's got to sell his trucks and a Kaiser soon, also mentioned a '74 Dodge Ram Charger that's been sitting outside his shop for years, people are starting to pick at it. He figured if he couldn't find someone to take it off his hands, he give it to the junkyard. It's got a 360 hooked to a 727 that doesn't recognize Reverse anymore. Went to go check it out while on a parts & beer run, and man I'm psyched! I've been wanting to learn 'bout Mopar, its funny how these opportunities find you! Now just gotta cut the weeds back, fill the tires back up and take 'er home. Of course, I haven't gotten a lick done on my '57 Effie, been wrenching on others' rides when not at Work. Tomorrow I gotta-gotta-gotta make sure I take Dicey Donna to Jim's to begin overhauling the wiring system (plus, got a battery kill switch, Friday). Really psyched about having the Ram Charger, too.I figure if the whole doesn't work out, at least keep the 360/727. Wing-go!!
Spent the weekend getting the Sedan back together and fixing all the things that went wrong on my trip to Knoxville. Got the radiator back in Sat morning after having three holes plugged (it was new), changed the fluideds (man the engine oil went black real quick) and helped a buddy get a new Compressior for the garage. Spent what seemed like most of Sun welding up the visor (it tore on trip) and fabbing a center bracket to keep it from flapping.
installed the gas kitchen stove, which i have been promising to do for a while... fixed the dish washer, which i have been promising to do for a while... fixed the front door knob, which i have been promising to do for a while... fixed a sink drip, which i have been promising to do for a while... and then finally got a chance to work on the rod, put in a k member and finished up some gussets
I cut out the last of the supports from chopping the top out of DeathsDoorStep.......................And picked up the newly machined Hemi, and started to bolt her in...........hope to piss the neighbors off sometime this week....................Littleman
I made the forward mounts and welded them in to attach some rear 40 ford bones to my frame, went to the local tractor show and pull (actual tractors), went to Year One for an hour - saw old kid there, the came home cleaned up 2- wheels so I could get them mounted this week, and cut the rest of the rusty **** out of the wheel wells so I could begin to make the rear body mounts, put in the wheel well patches, and make a floor in my 32. Then made some rear sub rails up and over the frame hump. I also kept the wife happy – she even thanked me for helping with the baby so much – damn, go figure.
Good progress this weekend. Installed the Radiator and grill. Steering column. And H-Bob came over and helped me install my Ansen swing pedal setup - THANKS!
Got alot done! Painted my garage pics soon and finally finally got my coupe to charge. New generator did the trick. Getting my generator for the 34 pickup this week and soon to have that on the road.
Swapped the AMX twin grip out of my 57 Belair and threw in a Ford 9 inch.Used the 1959 52 1/4 inch wide unit because my Belair has the springs moved in and has been mini tubbed.Twin grip had 4:55 gears in it and although great for the street it would have been hell on the highway.Adjusted the 4 speed shifter so it would stop hitting the corner of the seat going into reverse.Did some sweet burnouts across the dealership parking lot.....Ratmotor.
Took the intake off a freshly rebuilt engine to replace the black graphite POS gaskets with Felpro Printo-seal after getting water in the oil. More organizing in the shop.
Sharpened my machete and cut down the 20' x 10' area of huge flowers that somehow grew in my sideyard. Chose a lawnmower from the pile, got it running. Mowed the lawn on a house that I own for the first time in my life - next year I wont wait until late May. Had a crackhead 'supervising' for about 30 minutes before he realized that this stupid, white boy wasn't gonna get frustrated, quit, and hire him to mow it. Got the weedeater going and trimmed. Finally, got some garage time not dedicated to lawn equipment. Verified that my bike's generator isn't charging. Ran as many tests as I could without removing the generator. Measured the frames of the 4 japanese bikes that I have laying around and discovered that they have the same size and thickness tubing as my sportster, so I started making plans to build a bobber frame out of a couple of freebie japanese frames - that way when I screw it up, I'm not out any money. Next weekend - Springfield Swap and the Louisville Rockin Rods **** or whatever it's called - and the girlfriend even agreed to TWO car events in one weekend...
Worked on my pop's vicky. Cleaned up under the hood a bit, and worked on the new wiring harness some more. Got the original gutted, and I've got it running on the new wiring. Now I've got to see about moving the battery to the trunk...
Went to the Houston Early Irons swap meet. scored a 5.0 Ford block to hold together all the other parts I've ac***ulated.
